I guess it all started with the Nissan GT-R recently setting an absolute record for production cars (7:25). Now there is a flurry of interest for Nürburgring lap records. One of the record-seeking parties is Cadillac, as their new CTS-V just set a new record for sedans, at 7:59.32.

Let the excuses commence!!!
Good job Cadillac. They've been running at the 'Ring much longer than any other non-European car company and the results speak for themselves. The previous gen CTS-V, SRX, STS, XLR and current CTS have all be groomed over in Germany and the proof is "in the pudding" as they say.

Even though lap times around the Ring dont really mean much to a car buyer, it still makes quite a positive statement for Cadillac to have their car kick the M5's butt. Good job.

GM has had interest in setting records at the Ring for a while now. They just couldn't do it with the Corvette. Also, its important to note that they only slightly beat out an R33 GT-R and Subaru Impreza STI Spec C that have been sitting a the 7:59 mark for some time now.

Also note that the CTS-V weighs 4300+ pounds.
