Vectrix ZEV Electric Scooter

The Vectrix ZEV (Zero Emissions Vehicle) Electric Scooter can go from 0 – 50 in 7 seconds, and has a top speed of 62 mph. It's a plug-in electric bike with a range of 50 miles, making it ideal for urban commutes. The cost is just under $12K. Pretty neat if you ask me...

Interesting but a 250 gas scooter is way cheaper, faster and uses so little gas that it's likely equally green.

When they get the price down to $6000 they might have something.

3 hrs on a 110 volt outlet to recharge, not bad.

I've owned a 50cc and a 125cc scooters. The gas tanks are small so range isn't really much better than this, maybe 80 miles or so.

The 125cc scooter was a 2 cycle engine, so I'm sure emissions were terrible. The 50cc was a 4 cycle, but with no Catalytic Converter I doubt it was very clean, either.

$12k is a bit pricey. This is ideal for around town driving, not long distances. This price is too high for most college students, for instance.

The Honda Helix (250cc) is $5349, for instance. That's quite a price leap.

Everything looks great, except the price, but I'm sure that won't be an issue for others. In states where a motorcycle endorsement isn't required, I could see this having pretty good sales.

Good point about the Helix, but I'm sure that has significantly higher top speed.

Gotta go with fistwagon on this one.

I like the idea of electric vehicles, but my biggest problem with them is range. When I get low on gas, I can refill in about a minute. When this scooter runs low on juice, I need to find a place that will sell me electricity and I have to sit for three hours while it charges. Blech.

It might do well if they market it correctly. There's a sizeable market of people out there with lots of money and the desire to give the world the impression they are "green".
