Now 38 hp may not sound like a lot, but compared to my Honda lawn mower which has about 3 or 4 hp, it's a whole bunch. Not only that, this Dixie Chopper Xcaliber is likely the fastest factory lawn mower in existence, with a top speed of 15 mph. Again, not very fast until you realize that you can cut a bit over 9 acres of grass in an hour.
The frosting on the cake is that there is even an iPod and cell phone charger!..

My 48" cut 19hp zero turn uses about 3/4 of a gallon of gas per acre if the yard is flat. It's closer to a gallon is the yard is full of hills. I wonder how much fuel this thing gulps down. I love how they calculate how many acres you can mow in an hour. It's bogus. You'd be lucky to get through 4.5 under normal conditions.

ya - except if you actually go 15 MPH while mowing grass, your yard (or field, or golf course) will look like a huge roller just rolled over it..... especially if the garss is very tall before you start.

Straight line the whole way (a very long and skinny lawn). Full speed. It's completely bogus.
Then again, this mower is about bragging rights and not about practicality.

Commercial equipment for parks and greenways move along at a good clip, but you can cleanly mow a lawn at 15mph. Commercial units also have a much wider cutting swath and from ten or more blades. If you have volume to cut, a commercial Toro will kick Xcaliber's butt.

Regarding fuel usage, it's probably/hopefully a diesel. Regarding the price, it really doesn't sound all that bad for what you get. That's about the price of a high end 24 hp diesel John Deere 2WD garden tractor that only does about 9 mph. Apples to oranges because it's a garden tractor, but still...
