2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK: 2008 Beijing Auto Show

After seeing the lackluster lines of the Audi Q5, the sharply creased sheetmetal of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK actually looked pretty good. When we first saw this new compact SUV as a concept, it looked a little overstyled, like Mercedes was trying too hard to give it some personality.

In person, however, the GLK works. Instead of looking like a shrunken down M-Class, the GLK has enough original lines to keep you interested...
Even if you don’t come to like it, there’s no doubt it has something going on. Compare that to the Audi which just sits there and hopes you’ll like it because it’s an SUV, and the GLK is the clear winner. -- Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor, Inside Line

If it does look better in person, I'd be surprised. I looks way too busy up front and bland from behind.

I'm not really a fan of the interior, either. Look at all the buttons!

Its slowly growing on me but the interior seems a bit too cold for a Mercedes, almost Bangle (BMW) like in execution. Its just a bit too creased. I see a bit of G-Wagon in the exterior also.

I'm really getting tired of the endless series of crossovers coming out these days.

They can't match the light weight, mileage and handling of a wagon... or the space of a minivan... or the truck utility of an SUV.

People buy them because they think they get better mileage then SUV's, are more stylish then minivans and Americans have some odd problem with wagons.

Trouble is it won't get good mileage and it isn't styish. The Yukon and the Odyssey have better lines.

Is this the Jeep Liberty made by Mercedes?

I happen to find the Q5 attractive, at least from the front and sides. Am I alone here? It's the Q7 that needs some styling work. It looks like it's pregnant or something.

I think the Q5 looks good, certainly muhc better than this thing.

Very different approaches. This is a box, the Q5 is an egg.

To be honest I think they both failed in terms of styling. Neither is at all attractive.

The Audi has a much nicer interior.

Its a Jeep Grand Cherokee with different styling!

I spent about half an hour with this car two months ago. It's cheap and bland in person. The grille is look-at-me huge, the interior's as cheap and bland as the C's and overall it's not worth the asking price.

Honestly, what is MB thinking with this thing?
