Will Alfa Romeo succeed in the USA?

Yes, Alfa Romeo is returning to these shores. That's great news for fans of this storied Italian brand. The question is—will it be met with success or failure?

Now that may seem like a silly question to all the gearheads here, but the fact of the matter is Alfa is struggling in Europe...
So if it it's having trouble there—in the mother continent—why should we expect success here?

AutoObserver
raises just that question, and many other questions as well.

Alfa really missed out on the economic boom of the '90s. They always seem to come back during a recession. It's certainly an unusual tactic for a high-end brand. To be honest, Alfa isn't the brand they once were. The Competizone looks to be a great product, but I doubt that one product will keep them stateside. This is especially true in our emissions-knee jerk world.

I agree, their timing is terrible. They'd be fighting for a piece of a shrinking pie.

I love Alfas, but they will fail miserably, I predict.

I don't know...American manufacturers are doing great everywhere else except here

It seems everywhere I look, I see an entry level luxury car. Audi has proved that performance is not an big concern among these buyers, so Alfa's lackluster performance (except for the 8C) won't be a deal breaker. People may not recognize the brand, though.

sell me an Alfa 169 for about $3000 over the price of a Pontiac G8 and I will buy 2, one in red and one in black.

They are not just cars but, sculpted beauty. I stop and stair at them in Europe. For an everyday driver in L.A. (average speed of 10mph), yes I would love to sit and drive in a piece of art. For a weekend racer sadly no.

I hope they succeed. We really need a European car that isn't German. In the never ending question for engineering perfection, people have forgotten how wonderful a car with soul can be.

the Alfas in Europe right now are gorgeous, I hope they are successful here.

I love Alfa Romeo styling, whether its the 8C, Brera or the 159. It would be real nice to see them on the road. I'm sick of seeing boring Audis and Lexus.
