Toyota's President Katsuaki Watanabe on hybrids

Katsuaki Watanabe, president of Toyota has stated that there will be a hybrid of some sort in all Toyota model lines, probably sometime in the 2020s. For cars, don't expect diesel hybrids, as Watanabe thinks they will likely be too expensive for that application. For trucks, however, that may not be the case. In fact Toyota already sells a diesel hybrid truck in Japan...
Hmmm... A diesel hybrid Tundra? Yeah, I could see that. Then again, maybe not...

I question the expense of diesel technology. What about diesel manufacturing is so darn costly? It seems no more complicated than today's gasoline engines. In fact, I'd say diesel is simpler.

Diesels run at over twice the pressure of gasoline engines. Do the parts not have to be a lot thicker?

Plus they need this brand new expensive technology to clean their intrinsically dirtier exhaust.

Turbos, intercoolers, extra plumbimg, urea injection, etc.

Any how, I saw that today Toyota said they may make Prius a division.

That contradicts what the CEO is saying. Will they have a division of hybrids, seperately, or will each Toyota model offer a hybrid option?

I doubt they will do both.
