We've added a 2008 BMW X5 to our long-term fleet.
We opted for the 4.8-liter V8 engine capable of 350 horsepower rather than the inline-6. Our X5 is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, BMW's all-wheel-drive system and a third-row seat.
Goodies include a 16-speaker premium audio system, heated seats and moonroof...

Personally I think this is a complete waste of money. Why test an X5 when you've already had the R500 and the Q7, and had mediocre experiences with both? I would much rather have seen the new and much more capable Dodge Grand Caravan being added, or a Taurus X. Plus you'd have a ton of money left over, to purchase another used exotic!

More capable? That's going a tough one to sell.
If I could suggest a slight correction: The X-5 has a straight six, not a V6 as stated in the post. Sorry to be a pain. :)

How is that tough to sell? The Grand Caravan can haul more cargo, has a useable third row, and probably gets similar gas mileage, while costing half of what the X5 costs. Moreover the LT fleet has no minivans so a DGC would have definitely have been better.

That's good, because BMW doesn't make a V6, and god willing they NEVER WILL!!!

Daytona:
The BMW X5 4.8 gets 14/19 while the Dodge Grand Caravan 4.0 gets 16/23.

Orangutan that further backs up my point, thank you. The Grand Caravan has the X5 beat on fuel mileage as well, in addition to being more useful.

But the Grand Caravan doesn't give you the propeller emblem! ;)

It also gets that mileage on cheaper regular fuel.
I agree that a minivan would have been nice. Is there one in the current fleet now? Do they still have that Kia/Hyundai van?

I think that whole "driving enjoyment" thing probably goes to the BMW. Plus, IL probably skipped the Dodge in light of the fact that Chrysler may not be around in a year's time.

ateixeira, The Sedona has left the building. No minivan in the fleet right now unless they haven't introduced it yet.

Guys,
Relax. We're going to do a Dodge Grand Caravan too. In fact, we just took delivery of one. It's a loaded example with the 4.0-liter engine, swivel seats, Navigation and all the other toys. Look for its introduction soon.
And please stop doubting us. By now you should know we've got you covered.
Best,
