2009 Nissan GT-R Road Trip: No Longer Bored on I-5

Blame this one on Oldham's vintage radar detector, it never made a sound. When we told the officer about its lackluster performance he just laughed. "Is it turned on? I clocked you at 91 mph." On?..
Yes. Made in this century? No.

We offered him a turn behind the wheel and he actually hesitated for a second like he was about to take us up on it. In the end, he gave us a stern warning and bid us good luck at the drags tonight. Who says California Highway Patrol officers don't have a sense of humor?

Good thing you got off with a warning. I recall the last time a fellow Edmunds staffer blogged about speeding and got a ticket wasn't so lucky.

Wow, I've never had a cop NOT be a jerk to me, even for minor offenses. Maybe it's because I'm asian and obviously race people for pinks in my spare time.

91 and a warning? I got a ticket for doing 75 in a 60 for crying out loud...and I was behind a truck!

luck. pure luck.

I get busted for going 11 over and you guys are speeding like its a drag strip.

I guess the cop was flattered that he was likely the first one in the country to pull over a GT-R, lol.

91mph on that section of the I-5 is normal. .. unless there is a CHP nearby. =]

When I see this car in "real" situations, i.e., not at shows or in the make-believe world of a neon-drenched Tokyo, the less I see of any Skyline in this GT-R. It's a good thing they just called it GT-R, because other than the taillights I'd have a hard time pointing out the heritage in the design cues. People made a big deal about the 04-06 GTOs not looking like classic Ponchos and they gave it hood scoops to appease them. Maybe for 2010 Nissan will give this one...I don't know. It's a beastly car, no doubt, and I like the way it looks, but it's no Skyline GT-R, and that's a problem for me, at least. Part of the coolness of Japanese sports cars is that they are basically tarted-up versions of mundane cars, like an AMG or M car.

Please tell us EXACTLY what you said to that officer so that we all can use that excuse the next time we're pulled over for speeding......:-)

You need to put a little fogger setup on it for the drag racing...

Ed: No, I was too busy watching the G-meter.

THIS IS SIMPLY OUTRAGEOUS!!

This guy driving the GT-R admits all by himself to speeding TWICE, being pulled over by a cop and the cop letting him go.

Those cops should be FIRED.

This guys has the nerve to blog about it all and even gives out the name of the second cop pulling him over and the county as well. Thanx a lot man, I will be PERSONALLY contact AG's of both states and will see to it that the cops are taken care of properly.

This is police abuse at its core - they do whatever they like, its not up to them, its up to the law and they are merely upholding.

eugene: Shut your trap already. I've received plenty of warnings. Police Officers have, written into the law, power of discretion - so relax yourself J.O. I guess you've never received a warning..... just proves my point.
