2008 New York Auto Show: Best-Looking Volvo Ever?

2009 Volvo XC60

Direct from Geneva, the new 2009 Volvo XC60 compact SUV made its North American debut at the New York auto show. The two pre-production models on display are the same vehicles shown earlier this month at the European show, sporting no U.S.-spec changes. So, Volvo calling it the best-looking Volvo ever in addition to the safest Volvo ever should no longer come as a surprise.

But with Volvo styling having drifted far from stodgy in the last decade, that's saying a lot...

I've no reason to argue with Volvo about the latest safety technology packed into that SUV, but whenever Volvo Design Director Steve Mattin called the XC60 the company's best-looking product, I found my eyes drifting to the C30 parked nearby. -- Brady Holt, Student Journalist

It does look great.

It also looks a LOT like the Mazda CX9. Especially the entire green house.

I agree completely about the C30.

"Best-Looking Volvo Ever?"

It looks like a Ford.

The best looking Volvo hands down is the S80. The C30 isnt bad either. This one is nice looking but nothing special really.

I find this sort of blah. I agree about the S80 though.

The trouble with "style" is it too often comes at the expense of "practical". It's doesn't look that big inside compared to Volvos of the past (i.e. 850 wagon) but it's not really that good looking either. It's not an SUV and it will likely be way too heavy to be a good wagon.

Leaves it in the category of "what's the point?".
