Spy photos: 2009 Audi RS6 sedan

After the reveal of the Audi RS6 Avant , we figured it was only a matter of time before the sedan version would show up. Good thing it has too, as the chances of us getting the Avant in the U.S. are slim. Now that the existence of the RS6 sedan has been confirmed, expect to see it either late this year or in early 2009...
No changes are expected under the hood, so the same 580 horsepower, twin turbo V10 will send power to all four wheels. Audi claims the RS6 Avant will go from 0-to-60mph in 4.6 seconds, so expect the sedan to be a tenth or two faster.

Is anyone else getting lost in all of the S/RS/S-Line Audi products? It seems like there's a new variant every year.

The rear reminds me of a Mercedes.

It goes S, then RS, then R. At least that's my understanding.

Looks fine, but Audi design peaked about one generation of cars ago.

R and RS. The R is for the R8/R10 variants.

Yawn. I just want to read about the new CTS-V.

Funny how the RS6 is making considerably more power than the S8, and R8.

I hate to say it, but Audi could use a fresh look. They'v been playing the same cards for 5 years now. What used to look modern and european now looks avarege at best, and this is a brand new car. just wait till it's a few years old.

Thank you redliner. I've been saying fora long time that with the exception of the R8 and maybe the TT, Audis all look really similar and really old. The interiors are all becoming the same, it's time they got some new style.

I for one actually like Audis design language as its clean, crisp and timeless. Yes, these cars could use a larger dash of diversity between models but you can easily identify an A4 from an A6 just as you can with a 3 series and 5 series.

Whats funny about it? The RS line is the top performance trim for designated classes of Audi cars. A6, S6 and the RS6. The A8 has no RS version just the S8 which is a damn good sedan although expensive. The R8 is the base model for that car.

The R10 which will use the same V10 TT from the car above will debut soon as well as the R12 TDI. Its not rocket science.

Audi terms:
A = base/regular
R = high performance
RS = highest performance

Count me amongst those who admire the Audi design language. It may not be a brand new look but it has been tweaked over time and has a classy, timeless style to it - modern elegance. Look at that sheet metal especially in the bottom photo - smooth, taut, clean with great proportions, fit and finish and a great relationship between the wheels, tires and body.

I think that audi needs to make more cars like the rs4! and most of audi's cars could use some curves, like the rs4's.
