Chevy's Tahoe Hybrid is a full-size SUV with a 332-horsepower 6.0-liter gasoline engine and two 60-kilowatt electric motors. It saves cargo space by tucking the hybrid batteries under the second-row seat.
It can help you out at the gas pump but is the $9,100 price premium worth it?

Is the $9100 premium worth it? Hell no if it takes 15 years to recoup the cost.

you keep saying the premium is $9,100, but the premium isn't $9,100, as the article mentions of the higher equipment level.
It's very misleading to keep flinging around $9,100 when in the article you already stated it is not $9,100.
Your specific complaint is that you are not allowed to purchase a barebones Tahoe Hybrid with cloth seats and nothing else.

That's a valid point for sure billt9. However I compared the price for the hybrid model with that of the recently departed long term Tahoe, and the difference is roughly $4000, meaning 9 years to make up the difference. Still not worth it.

i think i'm right but this isn't any worse than any other hybrid. i'm not gonna be a number cruncher but yeah...

I think GM should have used a 6CYL or at least the VCM v8 but not the 6.0! If only the trailblazer/envoy's I6s got better mpg, they should haved tried that out! That I6 has a sweet sound and great power.

The 6.0 in the hybrid does use AFM (VCM). I'm not sure, but I believe that makes it the only current truck in GM's lineup with a 6.0l that DOES.

The bigger issue is that you can get steep discounts on the non-hybrids, while the hybrids will command full list price for a while at least.
You can get a Tahoe for under $30k nowadays, while a hybrid will be $50k. Sure, you get more equipment, but you don't have the choice. You will spend a whole bunch more and probably never break even (the batteries will die before you do, and those cost money).

The only place hybrids make sense is in stop and go traffic in the city. If that's where you do all your driving, why are you driving a full size SUV?
I don't see the purpose. I do like the Prius hybrid but the Tahoe hybrid is aimed at people how want to appear green but still believe bigger is better.
