CARNIVAL OF CARS: A Drive Around The Auto Blog Block for Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008

Chrysler and Nissan announced a deal this week whereby the latter will build small cars for the former to peddle in South America. Reminds me of MacArthur - old members of the Big Three don't die, they just fade away into the global market. So let's hit the road, shall we?
Maybe we can have our cake - performance and significantly lower emissions - and drive it, too. Check out Ford's new Ecoboost family of turbocharged and direct injection fours and sixes. Blue Oval News claims "up to 20 percent better fuel economy, 15 percent fewer CO2 emissions and superior driving performance versus larger displacement engines."

The tuners are already releasing stuff for the 1-Series Bimmer. 4WheelsBlog likes what it sees from H&R.

What is a Provoq? Believe it or not, it's a Caddy and GM claims it uses no oil and produces only water as a by-product. No, you can't buy it yet, but AskPatty.com can tell you more about this fuel cell/ion battery prototype than perhaps you will ever want to know.  Maybe they will offer soundtracks of great gas engines of the past - 409s, Hemis, Ferrari V12s - and let you choose the one you will hear when you drive your Provoq.

Got some brake rotors that warp whenever you look at them cross-eyed? One of My Honest Mechanic's readers has a 98 Grand Am thus plagued. And Austin Davis has the answer to a problem that will take you off the straight-and-narrow every time.

It's a familiar to story to many, but Gary Gaules at The Garage Blog does a great job in re-telling the tale of Roger and Mark dipping  Trans-Am Camaros.  Call me reactionary or whatever, but will anybody ever get as excited about racing a Provoq?

Come on, admit it - that's no inner fashion child you've got, it's an Inner Rock Star, right? If that makes absolutely no sense to you, you must be male  and you must head over to The Driving Woman where Tamara Warren explains everything.

The Auto Prophet is prophesying about the impact of CAFE on what us Regular Joes will soon be driving and I gotta tell ya, I see a driver revolt not so far down the road.

Corvette is simply a halo car, right? Doesn't really have anything to offer the daily drivers throughout the rest of the auto world? Mark Morrison at The Truth About Cars spent some time in a ragtop Vette and came away with some useful thoughts on that question.

Paul Tan reports that a replacement for Perodua's Kembara is in the pipeline.  What, you say you have no idea what is a Kembara? Well, it's, uh, actually, that's a good question, but Paul says it will be based on the Daihatsu Bego/Toyota Rush. Paul is my kind of Malaysian, describing himself as "just a petrol-head who loves cars." Me, too, Paul.

Finally, Dorri at If It's Got An Engine .... arrived in Detroit today for the big show and promises lots of pictures. He's also yearning for a Honda  CB1100F. For you four-wheel-cage prisoners, that's a great new take on the original Rice Rocket, the CB750. Me, too, Dorri!
