BrandIntel found some surprise automotive winners

Some surprises are to be found in a recent study done by the Toronto-based BrandIntel research company. Some of which are that GM, Mitsusbishi and Nissan are all getting "good buzz" on the Internet.

lan Dean, BrandIntel's vice president/research, says the results are important because Web chatter measures the magnitude of opinions that new-vehicle shoppers find when they are researching choices online. "So it's a leading indicator of good sales performance," he says...
"The formula's complex, but it penalizes any vehicle that generates negative sentiment. In effect, it takes an extraordinary leap in discussion share to overcome a little weak sentiment."

Versa is compact, isn't it?

I'm surprised to see Mercury rated so high. Much of the talk I hear is that the division could even be dropped entirely.
