2008 Detroit Auto Show: Embargos? What Embargos?

It's showtime, and that means breached news embargos. Who was the first? Don't know, but it doesn't much matter, as the genie is out of the bottle...

2009 Dodge Ram 1500
Straightline reported on this vehicle last month (2009 Dodge Ram), so this isn't really new news...
What is new here is that we have more info and specs—and tons of of pictures. I think the optional fender "Ram Box" storage area is a great idea. However, having said that, there's no way you can open that Ram Box if you have a bed cover or bed cap, as the opening wraps over the top edge of the bed side.

Oh... the Ram 1500 does have rear coil springs, as had been rumored.

Full stories here, here and here.

I really like this new Ram. The only thing missing from the spec sheet, as far as I can tell, is a six-speed automatic and an integrated trailer brake controller (which the 2009 F-150 has).

2009 Ford F-150
The New York Times broke news on this one; again, a very handsome truck, and should do well for Ford. Full story here. It's also interesting to note that this 2009 F-150 link (plus a couple of others) have since been yanked from the NYT article.

The Dodge Ram seems to be the most impressive Chrysler product in a while. The interior looks pretty good too.

As for the F-150, that whole new look was pretty predictable. I just want to know if they're going to drop a new engine in there.

Wow. That interior is blatantly Titanesque. If there was no badging, I couldn't tell you which was which.

The F-150 styling is nice, but as Daytona said, engine selection will be key.

I am very impressed with the Dodge Ram, especially the interior, big leap forward in design and hopefully quality.

Dodge does have good reasons for not increasing the tow ratings besides you can buy a ram 2500 for the price of a tundra. This new ram is trouble for the rest of the trucks on the market.

Ram 1500 with Cummins diesel will make my decision difficult between it and a Silverado with the new 4.5L Duramax.

Hey, after the Caravan & the Ram, maybe rumors of Chrysler's demise were premature. This product looks way better than the new F-150 and certainly looks like it leapfrogs the much-ballyhooed Tundra, too.

Don't forget the excellent new diesel in the Grand Cherokee and the huge success of the new Wrangler. Now if they just can refine their entry level cars.

The news this morning was talking about how many beers would fit in that Ram Box. Now that's publicity! :D

I think Ford should have went a bit further wil the overall design as it didnt stray too far from the current F150.

The Ram BTW looks great. Clean uncluttered lines and it has a bit of bling. Everything seems to work together and it comes off as unique and not just another pickup. Hopefully the interior appointments/materials can back up the exterior.
