2008 Detroit Auto Show: 2009 Ford F-150

So far the big happening at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show has been Dodge's real live cattle drive through the streets of the city. Incredibly, however, there was more bull to be found at the Ford press conference.

First of all, most of the media could not attend the show live because Ford had padded the audience in Cobo Arena with hundreds of its own employees. This was brutally obvious by the amount of applause everything got...

Even Mark Fields, the company's president of the America's, drew some hand smackin' for his shorter-than-usual mullet. Because of this, the bulk of the press was forced to watch the proceedings on a large screen in the Ford booth on the show floor, and did so in complete silence.

The big news announced was the all-new 2009 Ford F-150 pickup, for which Ford paraded out four paid "celebrity" spokesmen to sell the new truck, Toby Keith (pictured) being the headliner. He said he liked the new F-150 Platinum Series, well, because Ford paid him to say it. Professional Bull Riders Association champion Justin McBride also talked up the new truck, including its Sync system. We just wish Ford hadn't made him wear his chaps. Must have been a rather large check, huh, Justin? -- Scott Oldham, Inside line Editor in Chief

Sounds like a bad start already for the new F-150

I'm surprised Ford didn't hold a private meeting with its employees about the F-150.

I like this new 150--yeah the press deal was over done but it looks to be a great truck
If Ford would just up the power levels this truck may be close to perfect

Ford bit the hand that feeds. Very, very dumb. They'll get far less press for it.

Nothing looks good on this truck, grille is too big for the tiny headlights, which don't look good hanging down, side step is ok, until you go off roading and hit it and rip it off, Ford's don't even sit high enough off the ground to need running boards, Dodge changed their tailgate to look better, overall this truck is looking like more of a disappointment than anything good, the attention should go to Dodge because they had the best changes out of the other companies!!!

first I thought GM made ugly twins with the bold front end, now Ford add an ugly cousin. Are they trying to make the new Dodge that much better looking?

What I want to know is where are those "Boss" engines we kept hearing about.

Ford better have made incredible progress on driving dynamics and comfort because they have fallen quite short on styling!!!

What I notice about the new F-150 is that the tailgate design is nice and the bed step feature is also cool. But is it just me or I see a Ford truck that looks like a Tundra? But at least this is more handsome than the Tundra.
