Spy photos: 2010 Buick LaCrosse

There’s either a very fake grille on the front end of this test mule, or this is the next-generation 2010 Buick LaCrosse. Caught testing under some very close supervision according to our spy shooters, this prototype gives a few hints to the styling direction of Buick’s midsize sedan. The Enclave-like front end is pretty obvious, but the rear window line and overall greenhouse are a little harder to make out. This vehicle is expected to ride on GM’s new global midsize platform which means the continuation of front wheel drive...
Expect V6 power as well, although by the looks of this prototype’s wheel and tire combination, the LaCrosse will be well up to the task of handling serious amounts of power.

I like this styling direction for Buick, but the length of the wheelbase kind of looks like they're still using the Epsilon platform. It's a good basic platform, but I'm concerned that GM might be (once again) trying to get too much mileage out of a good thing. I just worry that IF in fact they are still using that architecture, then this car will only be dynamically competitive for the first year or two of its life.

It strikes me as a Nissan Maxima.

It's got decent lines, but I don't think Buick can afford to wait until 2010.

Looks good. As long as it is well built and of high quality materials, FWD shouldn't be a problem.

WHOA!!! Just noticed twin exhaust pipes out back. That seems to hint at something just a bit substantial, don't you think?

Just a H.O. V6

I don't know, something about those two unfinished tailpipes just sticking out of the back just doesn't look right. It sorta looks test-mulish to me.

So where does the Lucerne go?

Uh, yes. Because IT IS a test car.

I meant test mule for something else. They just don't look right for the LaCrosse

"So where does the Lucerne go?"

Well, that's the problem with the Auto industry. They still can't get away from the corporate fascias, and the (insert model name) Jr. habits. This car is obviously built on the new Malibu/Aura platform and will be very much like those cars. It should, however, have it's own identity. That means NOT making it look like Lucerne Jr., or making it Buick's Malibu. This "badge engineering" was what caused G.M. to be called "Generic Motors" for so many years.

Each vehicle should have it's own unique appearance so that there is no mistaking it for anything else when you see it.. Giving this car Lucerne design features is a mistake.

This seems long for an Epsilon. Wonder if it gets a longer wheelbase?

66Fastback, I get what youre saying but you didnt answer my question.
The Lucerne is positioned above the LaCross and with the LaCross growing up a bit I was wondering where the Lucerne would go.

Hondacura4: The Lucerne will transition to RWD in 2010/2011 on the Zeta platform.

The Zeta chassis is quite flexible accommodating the smallish Camaro, mid-large Pontiac G8 and super large Holden Statesman.

The Lucerne will probably be very large/ have Buick's only V8 and cost 35K as opposed to Lacrosse's $25-27k

I wouldn't be surprised if Buick transitions to a three car setup in NA; and they advertise it as the rebirth of the "Tri-Shield" . With three very large saloons as all they sale.

I can't wait to see how this looks! Hopefully there not going to use the Rivera concept frontend :(

So does Buick still want to be a Lexus competitor or have they changed their direction?

cbird2 says:

04:51 PM, 12/ 5/07

Their core values are reliability, dealer customer service and quality. Which they rank high in so... yes their main competitor is Lexus, since their at the top of those lists as well.

GM has refocused the brands, Buick will no longer be Chevy's with waterfall grills on them (i.e. Mercury's are still too Ford's). To have unique quality rides, N/A Buick will spend the same R&D on fewer models, developing upon the Enclave, Lacrosse, and Lucerne model names. So while their competition is Lexus; Lexus has the upper hand with all those different models.

I hope that Buick is NOT going the direction of Lexus in the styling department. I can't think of one Lexus that I would want to own based on its looks. The RX is still a cheap knock off of the AMC Pacer. Everything else Lexus makes is a poser Camry.

I have serious doubts the camo car is a 2010 Lacrosse replacement. Firstly, it appears too short for a LWB EP II platform. Secondly, the grill emblem looks more like Cadillac than Buick. Just my thoughts.

I'm all for GM but they need to finally wake up and realize how little relevance buick has to the US market anymore- they need to focus buick in China where it has positive name recognition and give up here where their vehicles continue limp along supplying an ever dwindling elderly population when new and the ghetto when used.

I wonder/hope that the new Riviera front end finds it's way onto any new Buick.
That is a direction that would give these bland mobiles some style.
