Well, Lutz has to retire sometime. The man is now 75, although he looks 20 years younger; but the fact of matter is, his days are numbered for sure.
Why 2010? That's when GM hopes to get their plug-in electric Chevy Volt into production...
The big question is: Who can fill his enormous shoes? Is there anyone out there who has all the qualities that have made Bob Lutz such a success in the auto industry?
Full story here.
UPDATE: Not retiring, so says Lutz; even so, sooner or later he'll be gone. Then what?
My guess is the thought (or rumor) of Lutz retiring would send shivers up and down the backs of investors and Wall Street. I would expect this news, when it happens, will be very carefully planned and managed by GM, and all systems will be in place by that time.

Bob (Lutz, not Holland) basically says, "Not so fast, my friend!"

Still, it begs the question, "Who could replace Lutz?"

GM should keep him on life support ... forever.
He's their Alan Greenspan.

Yeah, sooner or later Lutz will no longer be around. When that happens, who steps in?
