The all-new 2007 Ford Mondeo is Ford's best sedan. It's quick, agile and sophisticated in style and performance. It could be America's perfect car but Ford can't really afford to bring it to the U.S.
What do you think?

I think they should put the interior of the Mondeo with the exterior package of the Ford Fusion - how cool would that be?
More than this, Ford should bring over the Falcon as a speciality model that would be awesome. When I went to Australia I saw them everywhere and they were pretty impressive.
But back to the Mondeo if it ever comes to the US it should come as a Mercury, to give them a unique product.

It's sad. The U.S. isn't getting this car or its sister, the new Mazda6.

Mercury Mondeo...sounds good to me.
I love the styling. It will be interesting to see which side wins out as Ford unifies its design language.
Gotta say, after living in England for the past few months, they definitely have some really nice cars out here. Maybe once we get over our SUV obsession we'll get some nicer sedans in the States.

It's a pity we don't have any factories here, with which to get around the exchange rate issue.
Oh wait...

I don't know what to say. It seems like my generation will watch America the once grand nation go down the tubes. The state of the dollar and the state of us not getting the cool cars is rather depressing.

I don't get it. If Ford can sell a $47k Mondeo in Europe, wouldn't they be able to OWN the market with a $18k Fusion (no, not the Euro-Fusion)?
What prevents them from exporting the Mondeo-sized American-market Fusion to Europe? If they price it at $18k, Europeans will queue up from Lisbon to Ekaterinburg to buy it! Even with its gasoline engine -- $29k price difference buys a whole lot of gas even at $8 per gallon.

now can't they just build the car here or in mexico like many of their other cars?

I don't think you can take the converted European price tag as a real indication of what the car would cost in the states. For example, a VW GTI would cost $38k if the exchange rate was taken at face value.
On a side note, this car is awesome, and should without a doubt be brought to the states.

Excuses are only used by Ford and GM. Do you see Honda hesitating with the Civic and the Euro-Accord/TSX? Do you see Toyota wringing its hands over how to ship Lexus vehicles all over the world? No one cares what it takes or where you build it...if you have a competitive product that is being offered on a mass-scale in the world - it is inexcusable and increasingly suicidal for you to not carry that over to other markets. It's as simple as that. Moreover, why can't the US Focus/Fusion have great steering either or great suspensions? Since when did your country of origin become second-rate in terms of competitiveness of product?? Do you see BMW or Hyundai giving their second-raters to their home countries? It is just pathetic and completely unbelievable.

I've long thought the Mondeo was a striking car with hints of Jaguar styling. If it's good enough for Bond to drive, it's good enough to sell.

Ford has stated that's it's strategy is to combine the best elements of the Mondeo platform to a global platform for the next generation of the Fusion and Mondeo. So it looks like we're going to have to wait until about 2010 before we see this type of car in the US. It's something they should have done 10 years ago at least.

Excuses, excuses.
If Ford Mexico can offer the EuroFocus at the same prices of the american
focus why Ford USA can“t?
They even sold for a time the past generation of Mondeo at the same prices of Fusion! and it was a success.
How can they explain that?

Sometimes it seems that Ford wants to go out of business.
