2008 Detroit Auto Show preview: Mazda Furai Concept

Mazda will show their latest expression of their new Nagare (pronounced na-ga-reh ) Design Language in a concept vehicle called the Furai at the Detroit Auto Show. Nagare is Japanese for "flow and the embodiment of motion."  Others may see folding drapery (or the morbidly obese, depending on your point of view) .

The Furai (pronounced foo-RYE ) is built upon a 2005 Courage C65 chassis, and hints at the fact that Mazda may re-enter endurance racing at some point. If you recall, they won Le Mans in 1991...

Truly Dark and Sinister looking. Perhaps a fine alternate ride for the Batman?
LA, CA will love this one.

Kurt, that's exactly my wife's first comment too! Very funny. I said that's what Batman would drive if he competed in F1.

This is my favorite concept car in a looong time, possibly ever! The fact that it runs, and runs well, is extremely impressive. I LOVE the looks and that air fang is awesome. Go Mazda!

This looks cool, but how this will translate into production styling is anyone's guess.

I for one think Mazda styling peaked about a generation of cars ago. This is trying too hard.

I like the styling very much. I can't see such language reaching production, but I'd enjoy watching Mazda shoehorn a 4 rotor engine into this like the 787B and reenter LeMans.

desregarding the way it runs(and by the way looks preety impressive on this part too!)its the look of the thing that really call atencion!
its very cool to see a big factory going bonkers on the design department not only in a prototype for a show saloon ,but to go further and put to racing too!
a 4 rotor engine its probably only for the race car,and a 3 rotor for a production model !
why not mazda!?

Well, at least we finally have a concept that looks like a car. Could anything have been quite the waste of time and resources as the past year's Mazda "design" concepts?

And yes, its been said a thousand times, but when I saw this I thought it was a story about the next Batmobile. Very nice looking.
