This isnât the actual 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco, but it pretty close. Based on the same prototypes shown in our latest
Scirocco spy video
, this illustration reveals just how close the production Scirocco will come to the
Iroc concept
. It looks pretty good, but donât expect to see it in the U.S. anytime soon...
Executives at Volkswagen initially balked at the idea of trying to sell another performance coupe in the U.S., but thereâs a new CEO in charge now so this situation could change. It would probably have to cost around $35,000 to position it above the R32. Would you pay that much for this Scirocco?

That's pretty slick looking but 35 grand is a bit rich.

35k? No way.

They would have to price it closer to $28k, and they can't do that at a profit.
VW should consider bringing the Polo GTI here, to start their hot hatches at a lower price.

VWs are way, way too expensive.

How (besides in the looks department) will this car be any different from the GTI? I don't really understand. I guess I was expecting more of Volkswagen TT.

I'd rather have a CR-Z. But that does look good.

I'd rather have a CR-Z too. Especially considering it'd probably cost $10K less than this thing. VW has a pricing problem and they need to fix it. No body wants to pay $40K for a Passat either. If they don't fix it, I don't see VW being in the US for very much longer.

Maybe it could be branded Audi. It would be a 2 door A3. maybe.

If its running with quattro, DSG, and an aluminum block V6, the 35K is high but in line with other compact sports hatches from europe.
If instead VW sends it over with a 2.0T and FWD, it probably isn't worth the money.

There already are 2 door A3s in Europe
$35K for a simple compact sport hatch? You could probably get a 135 for that much. Time for VW to get a reality check on their pricing.

Seems like VW likes stepping on its own feet with multiple vehicles in the same segment. Id rather have the cheaper R32
Give me a JDM Civic Type R over both for much less money and a much more involved driving experience.
Flic, did you read on TOV that Honda (of America) isnt against being persueded to bring over the full spec JDM CTR? Id be first in line as I want a hard core compact sedan (at a fair price) with a great driving experience. I actually see this car being available here sometime in 2009.

I like the coupe style. There ought to be more of them across the industry. I do not, however, like the price. $35K is way too expensive for a car that sits in the same class as the Mitsu Spyder.
