2007 LA Auto Show: Chevrolet Announces Production of Beat Minicar Concept

In addition to rolling out its Malibu , Silverado and Tahoe hybrids at the LA Auto Show, Chevrolet also used the occasion to announce production of the Beat minicar concept . It won out in an online poll that pitted three minicar concepts against each other in a virtual popularity contest. GM's South Korean design center came up with the design and Chevrolet plans to put it into production by mid-2009. Don't get too excited though, as it's intended for markets outside the U.S...
and Canada only at this point. -- Ed Hellwig, Senior Editor, Inside Line

They 're calling it the Beat? Honda made a little roadster called the Beat several years ago. What's up with that?

Maybe it's because the wheels are so small, or because the headlights and grille are so ginormous, but this thing looks cartoonishly huge. If Bob Lutz was standing next to this thing, I feel like he would only come up to the wing mirrors.

Oh man, did I call it or did I call it? I can hear the lawyers grumbling right now. And yes, it is cartoonishly huge.

Its kind of stupid that they announce which one they've chosen to build in a US auto show, and then they say that we probably won't get it.

We picked up this little number from Area 51 and slapped a Chevy badge on it.

The headlights are silly, they almost tough the A-pillar.
