The last time I checked, most commercial airliners don't fly at 40,000 feet. I think most cruise at 30,000 to 36,000 feet. :confused:

Military Airspace is usually reserved for 40+ thousand feet so planes can fly supersonic and not affect the noise ordinaces. (sonic booms scare the heck out of people I'm told) So maybe he was thinking about his troop transports instead of his commercial airliners. Just a guess.

Military aircraft are not allowed to go supersonic except over bodies of water and designated fly zones. Even at 40K+ ft, the general public would hear a jet going supersonic.
