BMW announced pricing for the 2008 1 Series Coupe this afternoon at the 2007 LA Auto Show. When the coupe hits dealerships in the spring of '08, expect the 128i to start at $29,375 and 135i at $35,675. Tom Purves, chairman and CEO of BMW also announced that a 1 Series convertible will be shown at the Detroit auto show.
Purves, with the new M3 sedan and coupe in the background, ended the presentation by revealing that the concept BMW CS will be built...

Wow, that's overpriced! 36k for the 135 is ridiculous. The 335i sedan starts at 38k...might as well go for that as you can get it discounted off-the-lot and it has much better lease/residuals.
Even ED the 135 won't be that great of a deal.
BMW blew this one, big time.

I'm very glad to hear the CS will be built. I know nobody else liked the styling, but I absolutely love it. It's a striking design that takes cues from the long-missed 8-series.

Wow, I agree with Bluedotguy. BMW took the wonderful 135 and definitely priced it to death. Well its off my list now. $35,000 is bad enough starting off, but BMW also charges so much for options the prices for anything that has any boxes checked is gonna be climbing into the $40s real easily. I guess we can blame the weak dollar for this one.

A *starting* price of $36k for the 135i is no surprise. I foresee STI sales increasing because of this. :o)

well the STI price is at about 33k will be about 3k less. Nice but close.
It is overpriced. Like someone else point out a 335i sedan starts at 38.9 so about 3k more. and the coupe is about 40
talk about a let down. and a 30K+ start point for the 128? what is bmw smoking? with 228 horses its going to get beat by cars costing 8k less.
heck a mazda speed3 has more power. a civic si has 20 less horses. a gti starts at 6k less, and full topped of would still be less.
a suby wrx starts about 5k less. phhf, sorry this car is priced to matian bmw image. Not a drivers car for the driver.

Wow that is really disappointing! I have been dreaming of buying a 1-series since I first saw the coupe. I thought, "Finally, a BMW that is somewhat within my price range with the performance of a 335ci." How wrong was I. $35k for that little car is way too much. Especially when you add in options you could get a comfortably equipped 335ci (which also looks better).
The 128 is even too much, this should have been $27k tops!
That Pontiac G8 is looking more and more appealing.

Oh well, I was kind of expecting this anyway...
This thing will sell like a hot cake regardless.
It is a BMW after all.

The new 1 series had potential. The price of them will definitely make them a hard sell. Then again they are the cheapest BMW's you can buy. What did you expect right?

As much as I like the 335 and the 135 Id have to spring for the 535i Sport 6MT as I want and need the space.

I guess we need to wait for a 0.5 series for an affordable BMW.

LOL zach, good one.
Wonder what the euro delivery price would be on a 128i.
Volvo C30 suddenly seems grossly underpriced.

128i should be about 25k ED invoice/shipping before you add in 1k dealer profit - so figure about 26k. 135i will be closer to 30k with dealer profit/shipping.

I, too, was expecting the 128 to start at around $25K, and for the 135 to start at $30K. It's a little surprising BMW has gone for the higher end of both of these ranges. But it's not a dumb move by any means.
Think about it -- there are plenty of good sports coupes out there for less than $29K (VW GTI to name but one) and less than $35K (VW R32 to name another) but neither of them are BMWs. Sure, they're great cars, but they don't have the roundel on the deck lid.
I really think there's a generation of 20-somethings out there who would love to drive a BMW, but end up in A3's, VW GTIs, etc. due to cost of entry to the BMW party. Now that cost has been reduced (with two great cars that have sweet engines). They're going to sell a LOT of these in North America.

$29,375?! Shoot a rocket! I'll wait and see how the as-built price compares to the 328 wagon I would otherwise be interested in. The E90's are so darn heavy though! Sell me a 1 series hatch BMW NA!
