UAW workers approve Chrysler deal—barely...

It was nail-biting time there for a while, but at the end of the day, Chrysler workers finally decided that this deal—while not ideal by any stretch—was better than the alternative. The landmark UAW agreement was approved by 56 percent of production workers and 51 percent of skilled trades workers. Ninety-four percent of office and clerical workers approved the pact and 79 percent of UAW-represented Chrysler engineers voted for the contract.

It doesn't get much closer than that. But just because it passed doesn't mean it's going to work. I bet a lot of workers are going to walk.

I doubt it. Where are they going to find a job with the pay and benefits that they're still going to get? This is especially true for Michigan.

I haven't read the details on the proposal, but from what I understand, their benefits were reduced significantly. They're even in command of their own retirement (think Social Security Act Bush tried to pass a few years ago).
