Official photos: 2009 Nissan GT-R

The wait is over. Undisguised 2009 Nissan GT-R photos have now become available prior to the car’s official debut at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show.

Numerous GT-R prototypes have been caught testing around the world, including Germany’s Nurburgring and California’s Laguna Seca Raceway , but this is the first look at the rocket sedan’s completely undisguised sheetmetal.

Official specifications aren’t expected to be announced until Nissan’s Tokyo show press conference on October 24, but months of spy intelligence suggest the all-wheel-drive 2009 GT-R will get a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces approximately 450 horsepower.

Nissan says the GT-R will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, finish the quarter mile in 11.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 192 mph. Base price is expected to be less than $80,000.

If true, the GT-R will be true competition for the Porsche 911 Turbo, which it has been routinely seen testing alongside.

Looks better with the disguise

7,000 RPM redline? I'd have thought Nissan could do better than that.

So who's up for an $80K Infiniti G38?

Am I the only one who really doesn't car that much about this car?

blueguydotcom says:

This car will likely be a terror. It's part of a distinguished legacy and from all accounts it'll go toe to toe with the likes of the 911 Turbo and Ferrari F4xx. Not bad for 80k. And unlike those cars, it's a Nissan - it'll run and maintenance won't be crazy expensive. Nice trade off all around.

Blueguy, Im not so sure Id buy into the hype of past GT-Rs as people tend to over estimate them. Im not at all saying they were bad cars but some people had the idea that this was the best performance car out there and it simply wasnt.

I like the exterior styling, very Japanese but muscular and athletic. The interior is WAY too busy as it has too many different shaped and surface angles. Just desnt flow correctly. Ive never been a HUGE fan of the VQ35 since it was the super refined VQ30 as its lost its refinement in the process.

The newer versions of the VQ35/37 are a bit better but still a bit course. This "new" VQ38TT should be no different in refinement but Ill reserve my judgement untill I actually get to experience one. I actually wish they would have kept the inline 6 design as there is something about an uncorked inline twin turbo 6 that stirs the soul.

I do applaud Nissan for FINALLY giving the GTR its own chassis as the ones before were based off the regular Skyline sedans. Compromise is never good for a supercar.

Estreka, the GTR will be a Nissan not an Infiniti.

I am not a fan of unpainted/black mid-sections of front bumpers - Audis, Evos, and now this.

Go STI! :o)

carlisimo says:

YOU CAN SEE THE ENGINE

That makes it an awesome car. Not that it would've been hard for anyone else in the industry to do that, but finally... someone gets it!

Besides that, I'm excited. Can't blame anyone who isn't though, given that it's a new nameplate to us. But it's new in concept too, no longer an upgraded Skyline like we're used to. It's exactly as weird as if the M3 stopped being a 3-series... why would you do that?

Poor job on the marketing though. We saw so much of the car before this that they should've just released these pictures way earlier. And in other colors. Where's the iconic blue?

blueguydotcom says:

03:53 PM, 10/16/07

Where is the blue? Silver needs to be nixed from all car advertising.

honda, we'll see. I have a feeling this car will easily stomp the daylights out of BMW's banal new e9x cars and the RS4 has always been an also-ran and will probably continue to be one. really it comes down to this: can it compete with the 911 or R8? Will this be a poor man's 911 or just a really expensive M3-eater?

What an amazing looking car, after all those spy videos and spy shots here it is, the wait was totally worth it. I love every inch of this car, the outside is so bold and aggressive while the inside looks AWESOME! I cant wait for wallpapers and more pictures to come out. The price of this car is good to, only $80K. The numbers this thing will generate are sure to be spectacular.

I'm dying too for a comparison test, this against the Viper, Corvette, Audi R8, BMW M6 and Porsche 911 Turbo. Please do this, Inside Line!

I feel another rant coming on...

I am so OVER the whole silver car thing. If you can't paint a butt-hauling sports car an outrageous color, what hope is there?

If we all hate color so much, why the hell do we bother with bigscreen DLP TVs, photography and art? Why are we so damn conservative when it comes to cars? Is it because we've all grown up surrounded by concrete, glass and asphalt?

Nissan ain't Mercedes, this isn't 1947, the GT-R isn't a Silver Arrow and Suzuki-san the engineer isn't Nuvolari.

'Scuse me while I tune up my Wagner Power Painter...

billt9 says:

The Tokyo show car so should be painted hot pink.
Silver is bland as bland can be.

They shrunk the front GT-R badge from the concept!
Bad Nissan!

billt9 says:

This car looks so dull.
I'll pay $19,000.

iancar says:

You are in day dream if you think 20 grands can secure one of these in next year. This will be a car that Nissan never made enough. The only question is how much faster it can do with Nismo and JGT models?

cah11705 says:

04:19 AM, 10/17/07

I need to see it in a different color before i make any decisions about the looks.
The performance of this car is outstanding!!
And unlike other car companies, you can actually see where it all comes from.

r33 says:

for those complaining about the color its have some true. but gtrs always had neutral colors whith exception of the metalicblue in r34 and the metalic purple in r33 model they always came and basic colors like, white, black, gray and wine.
about the engine well,i am a huge fan of the rb engines ,its the japanese idea of the muscle motor, and even whith you not had the power right the way(was 280 on the rb26 and 250 on the rb25)its was so easy and so trustable thats whith just some booster up you could take easily on the 350hp mark whith safety enough.
but the rb was not a ecologic engine so they puted down.
the idea of take the gtr badge of the skyline cupe and do a complete diferent car keeps making me feel a little sad .
like the dude said above me ,its like do a m3 whitout the series 3 bmer shell, but who am i to complain about almost 450hp and 3.5secs 0 to 60!!
this will be a serious contender for the overpriced europeans and to the z06.

"the idea of take the gtr badge of the skyline cupe and do a complete diferent car keeps making me feel a little sad . "

I have to disagree R33 as the older GTRs were Skyline based, and platform sharing isnt a good thing for any "super-car".

This GTR has a dedicated platform which should cut down on compromises and more importantly performance robbing WEIGHT.

carlisimo says:

11:38 AM, 10/17/07

But it wasn't a supercar, it was a flagship analogous to the M3 or M5.

r33 says:

03:28 PM, 10/17/07

the 400r was a oneoff maded by nismo like the ztune streka.
you are right hondaacura4,nissan have serious pretensions whith this car worldwide,so a body designed only for this one is a good premise, but whith you look for the nismo z tune you will see that was not a excuse.
and in mi opinion whith you want a supercar hunter(THATS WAS WHAT GTR S ALWAYS WAS) a its a better idea you show what you capable off whith a car who comes off the normal line, like the m3,a flagship to show how good your car can be.like carlisimo said above.
maybe the nissan intensions are go above the hunter idea and try to make the gtr brand a supercar per se,i see nothing wrong whith this.
i just think its more exciting you have a normal based car who can go around supercars than a supercar who can just go whith the other ones!!
the car used for the comparision when they tunned this model its already 3 years old,so in 2009 when the new turbo comes the gtr will be already shadowed and you have to consider the new corvette to ,they say will have more then 600 hp thats is a lot of v8 power.

billt9 says:

08:30 PM, 10/17/07

This car is so hot.
I hope it bombs so I can pick one up cheap.

desmolicious says:

01:43 PM, 10/18/07

OK, so the stats are out. Over 3800lbs ! Over 7.5 inches longer than any of it's rivals. And looking at it is like getting poked in the eye with a stick.
A really fast tank.

blueguydotcom says:

03:32 PM, 10/18/07

desmo...all reviews are saying it hangs with a 911 turbo while offering more usable space. It's essentially an everyday supercar...like the R8 but way cheaper.

blueguydotcom says:

03:33 PM, 10/18/07

And yes its weight is tank-like. Or at least RS4/M3 flabby.

desmolicious says:

01:33 PM, 10/19/07

That 3830 is for the Japanese spec car. What's the betting that the US version is going to be even heavier?

spidey0123 says:

Hondacura4 I believe you have stated the following
"Blueguy, Im not so sure Id buy into the hype of past GT-Rs as people tend to over estimate them. Im not at all saying they were bad cars but some people had the idea that this was the best performance car out there and it simply wasnt."

A non believer I guess but ofcourse I respect your opinion, but If you got to know a bit more about the GT-R maybe you'll think about it next time.. Let's see a bit of a trivia of what's inside a GT-Rs resume...
a record 50 and 29 consecutive official race victories in 50 and 29 starts, numerous international race trophies that it was named GODZILLA by foreigners, lap times in nurburgring, the only known racecar to be given a 30 kilos weight handicap everytime it hits the circuit to compete, was even banned to race for being.. well too dominating... etc., etc. just to name a few. ;)

Simply put it wouldn't be tagged GODZILLA, Ultimate Japanese Supercar, and "Holy Grail" of Japanese performance cars for nothing. :)

ignited says:

06:14 AM, 10/29/07

Exactly spidey0123! and no other Japanese car had come close to those sheer brute mutant dinosaur gnarliness... as worldwide auto critics and BBCs TopGear say's the GT-R is the only real contribution of Japanese in world of supercars, and is the best Japenese performance car of all time .
