2007 SEMA Show: Toyota FJ Runner Concept

Did you ever wonder what a Toyota 4Runner would look like with an FJ Cruiser front end? Well, nobody else did either, but this is SEMA so the obvious ideas are not always the ones that get built. That said, Toyota did a pretty good job of blending its two truck-based SUVs. Almost all of the changes were made from the A-pillars forward, but there are few updates farther back like the squared-off rear wheel openings and swinging tailgate...
The dashboard is from an FJ, too, complete with inclinometers and a compass. -- Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor

I like it a lot, in fact I like it much better than either the current FJ or 4Runner.

As do I, rsholland.

Does the rear glass roll down?

I would consider this to replace my Wrangler, cuz unlike the FJ it actually looks like it will have ok rear vision.

That looks pretty sweet really, mainly because of that color.

Seeing this creation reminded me that the 4Runner still exists, I barely see any now and I'd pretty much forgotten about it. With the existence of the bigger RAV4 and the Highlander, I have a feeling the 4Runner wont come back.

At least a guy can see out of this one!! Toyota should consider some version of this to fix the FJ's horrible sight lines.

Agree, looks like the perfect blend of FJ utility with increased visibility. I like it, except for the tailgate. To me that just looks weird. However, I think Toyota should just replace both the FJ and 4Runner with this.

I like it too - but that tailgate has to go. Given that the FJ is based on the 4Runner, this would be a logical move. A 4 door, a 2-door, and a convertible. Sounds like the Wrangler lineup to me...well, more or less.

This looks great! The only things I like about the FJ are the front end, the dash and the squared off rear wheel openings. Oh, and put a White Top on it please! This SHOULD replace both models. I agree with stovt001

I love it. And I don't care for the current 4Runner.

This would also help distinguish the 4Runner more from other 27 SUVs in Toyota's lineup.

Sweet. Perhaps offer this as the next Scion? We all know this is too stylish to be a Toyota.

This is more in the direction that the current 4Runner should have gone in the first place. I have a '98 4Runner (that I still love), and was looking forward to the new body style but was dissappointed. To me this concept looks like a Frankensteined 4runner/FJ Cruiser. In other words, it's not really cohesive. Mainly the 4Runner C pillar isn't working. It needs to be more verticle. I agree it's a better alternative than their current offerings though.

At first the idea of a FJ Cruiser and a 4Runner put together sounded horrible to me but after seeing these pictures i have to say it's very well done except for that tailgate. And daytona 500, i wouldn't be so sure about the 4Runner not being redesigned considering the Land Cruiser was redesigned and there's going to be a new Sequoia.

I love all four generations of the 4Runner.
I really don't like the FJ Cruiser the interior is cheep the exterior is ugly! the chassis and engine are the usual Toyota quality! I really think Toyota has something here!
If the FJ Runner goes to production I'll be the first in line to buy one!

Toyota Rocks!!!!!
