1964 Peel Viking added to Lane Museum collection

The Lane Motor Museum in Nashville has acquired a rare 1964 Peel Viking to add to their collection of Peels from the Isle of Man. The Peel Viking is one of only seven known to exist.

Most people associate Peel Engineering with the building of fiberglass bike fairings and microcars, but Peel also made a couple of different car models based on then current production cars’ running gear.  Peel actually never produced the whole car; they would sell you the fiberglass body and you had to take the drive-train and brakes from a junk Mini.  Many other parts were borrowed straight from the Mini such as the steering wheel, doors and windows.

Although the 1964 Peel Viking is a nice looking and practical car, it did not sell and production barely started before production stopped.  This front engine, front wheel drive car joins the tiny 1965 Peel P50 (3-wheeler), which at 220 pounds is the world’s smallest production car, and a 1965 Peel Trident (3-wheeler) in the Lane Motor Museum collection...

The back end reminds me of some classic, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I think it looks cartoonish. Elmer Fudd might drive that thing.
