Shelby Autos unveils Terlingua Racing Team Program

Fans of Carroll Shelby and of grassroots racing take note:

From the Press Release:
LAS VEGAS - October 31, 2007 - In April of this year, Shelby Automobiles, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) and legendary Terlingua Team member # 2 Bill Neale returned the Terlingua Racing Team to the spotlight. Today the Terlingua team announced a series of vehicles and products for the grassroots racing community that live up to the Terlingua Racing legend.  Ranging from a high performance package for Ford Mustangs to special edition Shelby Cobra, the program was introduced during a press conference at the 2007 SEMA show.

“We formed the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team to thumb our nose at the stubborn, old racing establishment, win races and more importantly have fun,” noted Shelby Automobiles Founder Carroll Shelby. “That rowdy lifestyle became as popular as the cars we raced.  In fact, our 'bunny' appealed to more people than those at the Playboy mansion. Now we're passing the Terlingua Racing Team torch to new generation with products and vehicle packages that bring back that anti-establishment attitude so they can carve out their own legends.”

During the press conference, Mr. Neale and the Shelby Automobiles team unveiled three vehicles that had been brought up to Terlingua Racing Team specifications. A 2007 V6 Ford Mustang, a 1965 427 Shelby Cobra and a 1967 Ford Mustang were displayed in Terlingua state of tune.

The Terlingua Racing Team package for the V6 Ford Mustang includes serious performance enhancements and striking visual cues. The hot rod features significant improvements to the handling and braking capabilities that were developed with partners like Ford Racing; an optional supercharger will crank out 375 horsepower. The coupe sports a deep draw hood, 20” anthracite “Razor” wheels and a host styling changes including the famous Terlingua rabbit. The package will be applied, with a Shelby serial number, by official factory mod shops including the one at Shelby's Las Vegas facility. The retail base package price is estimated at about $7,995.

2007 SEMA Show: Toyota FJ Runner Concept

Did you ever wonder what a Toyota 4Runner would look like with an FJ Cruiser front end? Well, nobody else did either, but this is SEMA so the obvious ideas are not always the ones that get built. That said, Toyota did a pretty good job of blending its two truck-based SUVs. Almost all of the changes were made from the A-pillars forward, but there are few updates farther back like the squared-off rear wheel openings and swinging tailgate...

2007 SEMA Show: A Show of Extremes

The SEMA Show is all about extremes. The biggest. The dumbest. The craziest. It's a show that takes moderation and crushes it under the 30-inch tires of a Donk. Or is it a Bubble? Whatever. It's fun. And it thankfully happens only once a year. Enjoy this tour of SEMA extremes. Look at all 20 and then tell me which is your favorite? -- Scott Oldham, Inside Line Editor in Chief

Extremely high.

Extremely expensive.

2007 SEMA Show: Corvette Z06 Turbo System

Here's one way to give your C6 Z06 Corvette 1,100 rear-wheel horsepower. This turbo system from Australian company APS uses clever packaging to create a fairly complete system. Specs include two GT3582R ball bearing turbos and cast exhaust manifolds. The plumbing cleverly hides the wastegates in space under the floorpan (not visible here) and places the oil cooler between the two intercoolers in the nose of the car...

2007 SEMA Show: Is this the production FJ Cruiser convertible?

A Toyota FJ Cruiser convertible is nothing new. There was one on Toyota's stand last year , and plenty of others built by aftermarket companies since then. This FJ is a little different though. Its convertible top was built by Bestop, the same company that builds the soft tops for Jeep Wranglers...

2007 SEMA Show: 2007 Street Rod of the Year

Turns out one doesn't have to look very hard to find gorgeous examples of craftsmanship at SEMA. This car won the 2007 Goodguys Street Rod of the Year award. Built by Barry's Speed Shop in Corona, California, it's a '32 Ford Roadster they call the F-32. Powered by a 427 Windsor, its detail work is truly striking. Check out the exhaust exit.

A new era for GM states Bob Lutz

"It's a substantially improved world, and I would say our situation product-wise, reputation-wise, labor-cost-wise is probably the best it's been in 20 years," GM's Bob Lutz said in an interview at a media event in Memphis to promote the launch of the refreshed Chevrolet Malibu. "I would say all of the stars are aligning very nicely. ... But are the worries over?..

Aussies freeze sales of Toyota RAV 4 V6 because of problems

When it rains, it pours; and for Toyota, October has certainly been the rainy season, as one more model is being added to the troubled vehicle list. Australian Toyota dealers have been ordered to stop selling the RAV4 V6 because of quality problems.

While the "problems" have not been outlined in this article, and there's no word if these issues affect RAV4 V6s sold in other markets, it's still clearly yet another stain on the company's reputation.

MiniC.A.T compressed air-powered car

I did a story on this back in June (World's first air-powered car goes on sale next summer ), and now here's some updated info on it.

The MiniC.A.T is a simple, light urban car which is the result of an agreement between Tata and MDI. The vehicle runs on compressed air. The car is in production, and is being sold in 12 countries. Unfortunately the USA is not one of them.

The Press Release is after the jump.

Truckin’: The American Pickup Truck

Truckin’: The American Pickup Truck
is a new exhibition at The Antique Auto Museum at Hershey (AACA). Hershey, by the way is the perfect location for such an event, as it's in the heart of farm country, which means "pickup" country. The show opens Saturday, November 3rd, 2007.

From the Press Release:
Few things are more American than the pickup truck.  Today it sits in suburban driveways, urban job sites and rural farmyards...

2007 SEMA Show: Roulette Wheels

We get it already. The SEMA show is in Las Vegas. We didn't see a set of these babies mounted on any car, and this example didn't even have a valve stem hole.

We'll spare the company who made these the embarassment by not mentioning them by name...

2007 SEMA Show: 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T

This gem was sitting quite unnoticed in the Mopar booth of the SEMA Show. The 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T isn't a production model, but it should be.

Hardware includes a 260-hp 4.0-liter V6 with ram induction and dual exhaust, a lowered sport tuned suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels and Goodyear tires. Inside we touched the suede headliner and the performance seats with suede inserts and red stitching. Exterior mods include custom front and rear fascias, a custom rear spoiler, a new hood with a functional hood scoop and LED driving lights...

2007 SEMA Show: Somebody Call an Ambulance

My pick for the pimpest ride at the 2007 SEMA Show is this. It's an ambulance. A 1968 Oldsmobile Cotner Bevington Ninety-Eight Ambulance, and I found it to be a beacon of light in the SEMA sea of strange.

Built by JKR Racing in just 2 weeks, the big Olds features a midmounted 496-cubic-inch big-block Chevy engine with two big carburetors and nitrous oxide. Owned and driven by Shannon Speer, RN, otherwise known as Nurse Ratchet, the ambulance also packs an airbag suspension, a full roll cage, wheelie bars and 9-inch Ford rear end with 4.56 gears...

2007 SEMA Show: 'Cuda Concept

Since you've probably had it with all those Dodge Challenger concepts, we present the 2008 Concept ‘Cuda. That’s right, no brand needed, just a really bright orange paint job and some 22-inch wheels. It’s pretty much the same as the Challenger underneath the skin, but in this case the skin is carbon fiber instead of that old rusty steel stuff. There’s a 6.1-liter Hemi V8 underneath the hood of course and a pistol grip shifter too...
