Here's an ambitious undertaking to tempt Ferrari fanatics: a new video game from developer System 3 that aims to present the entire Ferrari product line since 1947.
Ferrari Challenge will ship with 30 car models and offer the rest of the Ferrari catalog and other upgrades through microtransactions -- a couple extra dollars here for Ferris Bueller's 1958 Ferrari 250 Spyder, a couple extra dollars there for a new track.
The game will feature 13 tracks at the outset, with Monaco available for download shortly after its retail launch. Cars will suffer damage -- rare in a licensed title -- but it will be cosmetic only, and won't affect their performance on the track...
One of the most impressive features of the game is the modeling of the cockpits, which is meticulous and exacting, all the way down to the proper stitching in the leather. Gamers will be able to use one of the analog sticks to turn their avatar's head and look around the interior of the car, and the game features all of the prominent sponsors' advertising on the tracks, including Ferrari partners Puma and Acer.
The game will support 16-player races online and two-player split-screen offline mode, and will be compatible with PS3 driving wheel/pedal systems. Players can customize their rides with decals, and include their own custom soundtracks. The game also features a quirky card game, a la Magic the Gathering, but with a Ferrari/racing theme reminiscent of a previous offering called Ferrari Top Trumps.
The game is around 60 percent finished at this point, on target for a planned Q1-2008 release, and will be the first dedicated Ferrari title since 1999's arcade offering, F355 Challenge. -- Fran Irwin, Tech Contributor

This sounds really cool. I'm sure it will look good, but I hope it's very playable as well.
