Strike 2 and you're out! Word on the street is that Lincoln will be dropping their luxury pickup, the LT. This is the second time that Lincoln has tried a pickup truck and failed. 2008 is supposed to be the last year of it being on the market...
It will be interesting, now that both Ford and Lincoln have a LWB SUV, to see if either brand will take another stab at copying the GM formula for success? This new LWB Expedition/Navigator platform, which is similar to the Suburban/Escalade which begot the Avalanche/Escalade EXT, offers so much more potential in terms of creative packaging, and is clearly the way to go should they decide to give it another go. I have little doubt, even in this anti-SUV climate, that something like that will do much better in the market.
Full story here and here.
Here's Inside Line's take: RIP: Lincoln Mark LT

Gas prices are 21 cents lower than they were a year ago. But still, by they time they got attempt #3 ready for market who knows where prices (and consumer sentiment) will be.

I'll give ford credit the LT did better than the Blackwood anyone remember that dismal failure? However when you think about it the LT is nothing more than a F150 that has been all chromed up and had tacky "vogue" tailights put in just like how the 9-7x is nothing more than a chevy trailblazer with the ignition key between the seats. Of course knowing Lincoln they'll try again in a few years and maybe the third time will do the trick

I just don't see a target audience for the LT. Who buys those things?
Edit: The HD F-150 does WAY better than the LT ever has. Maybe they should have thought about that. Also, if Ford built the Lightning again, they wouldn't be bothering with lame pseudo luxo-trucks. My point is, there's plenty of demand for $35K+ trucks out there, but there has to be some substance to them.
Despite what quite a few of us think, the general public does understand what badge engineering is.

While i see alot more of these then i ever say the Blackwood, these are no competition for the Escalade... They are about 10,000 cheaper and yet still sell bad compared to its competition.
But while i drool everytime i see a new escalade, i yawn when i see this F150 with a different grille and tailights... The truck doesnt even look that great, just... "done up" but they should just give up...
Atleast this time its selling for 2 or 3 years and their are quite a few of them on the road, to the point that i find it strange they'd stop making them...

This makes me wonder. While certainly NO Lincoln LT fan, I wonder that if in 1 -3 years from now, the resale value of these "L-150's" would drop enough that you could pick them up for what an F-150 (from the same build year) would cost. Does the failure of this thing make the re-sale go down like that?
I can see people buying these used for the "luxury" factor.
Anybody care to discuss?

I imagine the price will drop considerably. Luxury vehicles always do, especially when they get discontinued or replaced. I don't foresee the LT being a collectors' item. The Harley-Davidsons, though, will hold their value well for the life of the truck.

Not a surprise at all. Ford never invested in this truck they just slapped it together and sold it. There was pretty much nothing different from the F-150 and it was missing all the lux features that the EXT had. Plus the engine was over 100hp sort of its sole competitor. It'd be cool to get one of these down the road, itd probably be cheap.
The Blackwood was cool in a unique way, in that there are very few out there.
