For 2008 Lexus has added more muscle to their luxury GS sport sedan by replacing the 4.3L V8 with the 4.6L V8 from the larger LS. Along with the increased displacement, the horsepower jumps to 342 from 290. Also included in the package is the 8-speed automatic found in the LS 460, which replaces the current 6-speed unit. EPA numbers are 17/24 mpg, which is within one mpg of the smaller engined GS 430 (18/25)...

anti or ante? Maybe not enough coffee for me to get a joke this morning.

That's a pretty significant bump in HP.
Toyota has surprised me, though, when they dropped the FWD hybrid Highlander and RX400H, and now launch this model with lower fuel efficiency. The timing just seems odd, with fuel prices on the minds of many consumers.

"anti or ante?"
Fixed. Thanks.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the 8-spd is overkill? I'd like to know how much that tranny is going to raise the price of the GS too.
I second the Sienna front-end comment.

This was pretty obvious. Old GS430 = 290hp, GS350 = 303hp. Where was the incentive to spend more on the V8?

True 7 but using the same logic where is the incentive to choose the BMW 550i over the 335i as they are very close in acceleration and the 535 gets better mileage to boot.

H/A4, my recollection may be off, but I recall the brochure quoting HP numbers, not acceleration numbers. I think most unsuspecting shoppers will be paying attention to the 360hp of the 550i vs. the 300hp of the 535i. Plus, 550i can beat the 535i, no matter how small the margin depending on many factors. No matter how you cut it, the GS430 had *less* hp than the GS350, no way around that.

That new bumper is just awful.

juice - the 4.6L has lower efficiency than the 4.3L? is that true? or just adjustment for '08. I think the 4.3L 18/25 was old method, or am I incorrect?
