There has been a ton of speculation here and elsewhere about the upcoming Subaru STI. To boot yesterday at Frankfurt Subaru unveiled a "shell" of what their next WRC racer will look like, with many thinking that it is a tip-off of what the street model will look like.
A few days ago several scans from Best Car , a Japanese car magazine hit the Net showing the car, but the images were so small that it really was hard to get a real feeling for it, other than it seemed to look pretty good. Now larger versions of those scans are up over at NASIOC...
Oh, one more thing... Paul Hansen who posted these Best Car scans is one of the best sources of Subie info I've ever come across. He's an Aussie living in Japan, and when he reports on anything Subaru—you can pretty much take it to the bank!

My interest in the Impreza is mostly for the plain version. But I just wanted to say that Edmunds coverage of the Frankfurt auto show has been great. I can't wait to see the hatchback up close.

That grille looks better than the standard grille, but the front fender flares really make that car.

Latest word from "someone in the know" is that the taillights are slightly recessed, more like that seen on the WRC concept at Frankfurt. Also, the trailing edge of the front fender blister is more like the WRC concept too, and may have a small vertical grille of some sort on it.
So, yes, it still is a Photoshopped image—but very close to the real deal.

The flares help a lot. But the key to making the new Impreza look decent is changing the smiley lower grille, as they've done here.

Now, it looks mean! I like it! We'll see in a few weeks at Tokio show the final product.
