All right folks, this came out of nowhere... PickupTruck.com , crunching some numbers, have come up the possibility that since January 1, the Toyota Tundra may have actually outsold the GMC 1500 model. ...I repeat: "the Toyota Tundra may have actually outsold the GMC 1500 model."
Toyota has sold since the first of the year has sold 105,990 Tundras, of which 97,290 are the all-new '07 model. GMC, over the same period has sold 115,185 Sierras—which at first glance keeps GMC ahead—but here's where it get interesting: If you take figures from Wards , over the last two years 2/3 of Sierra sales were the 1/2-ton 1500 series...
Incentives be damned, if their facts are true, this is a pretty significant event, in that it's the first time a foreign truck maker has ever outsold a domestic full size truck.

This just proves that all the negative, anti-Toyota, anti-Tundra bashing that goes on is not representative of whats going on outside forum-land. The new Tundra has obviously struck a chord with folks and Toyota can and should be taken as a serious competitor in the segment.

Honestly, this isn't too much of a surprise. Somewhat expected, actually. The Sierra has never been a volume seller compared to the Silverado. I would imagine (don't have the numbers) that there are considerably more Toyota dealers in the US than GMC dealers. GMC is a niche division that will, and does, attract a smaller following.
If Toyota were to overtake the Silverado's sales--or even the Dodge Ram, which is more likely--THAT would be something.

Not really fair, GMC has fewer sales than Chevy. They should be combined, really.

Toyota seems well on their way to the 200,000 Tundras/year.
I think the article is splitting hairs, though. I wouldn't propose this is really a significant event. Actually, the Tundra has outsold the Lincoln LT basically since inception. So if you want to set that as a standard, look to the past.

Yeah, but nobody takes the Lincoln truck seriously. The name GMC, however, is a name long associated with American trucking. So in that respect it is significant.

Not long ago people were saying that this truck wouldnt even meet Toyotas sales goals yet it will and then some. Im not saying that this truck will outsell the F150 anytime soon but never say never. I could sware I read that the Tundra was in the top 10 best selling vehicles in the U.S. Bring on the HD's!

Yeah its selling, but look at the money they are throwing on the hood. More than GMC and as much as Ford. And it is still a more expensive truck.

Not to mention that it's now August. The year is well beyond the halfway mark. Also, truck sales tend to slow down during the summer due to gas prices. If they keep incentives up, they just might make 200K by December 31st. Next year, Toyota needs to lower the base prices of their models, though.

I agree about the pricing as Toyota really screwed up in tha area with this truck. Sure offering more standard options is nice but the domestics offer their base trucks in the mid to high teens, certainly not good for the Tundra. Ive heard they are reconfiguring the prices and options though. I still wouldnt brush the Tundra off just yet as "you have to crawl before you can walk".
