GM says it's moving away from badge engineering, but with sales of its latest crossovers going so well it just couldn't help itself one last time. These latest spy photos shot in Las Vegas appear to show the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, the bow tie brand's version of the Buick Enclave/GMC Acadia/Saturn Outlook triplets. Although no badging is visible, this test mule looks like it has Chevrolet's trademark grille design and an overall shape similar to its Lambda platform siblings. Expect to see this new Chevrolet crossover in showrooms by the fall of 2008.

How long till we see the Cadillac or Saab rebadges?

That's a terrible name. A real "traverse-ty".... sorry, I couldn't resist. Really though, the definition of "traverse" is "to cross over something", like a bridge. I imagine the Chevy marketers were just sitting around thinking, "Damn, all the good names are already taken, what are we going to call this next crossover? I know, let's just call it the Crossover. No, that's too obvious, get me a thesaurus..."

lol, I couldn't agree more with Ahightower. C'mon GM, all those fancypants designers and not a single guy with eloquence?

Hmm, well maybe it's the next Equinox? I suppose the Traverse will replace the Equinox? Then again, the Equinox is supposed to be "compact," and clearly the Traverse/Acadia/Enclave/Outlook are considered mid-size, if not full-size.
Any word on what will replace the Equinox/Torrent?

I liked the Outlook but visibility was limited. Hopefully this will have a bigger green house.
Though it looks much the same as the Saturn...

Chevy should always have gotten the Outlook instead of Saturn. However, this does appear to share more in common with the Enclave than Outlook/Acadia. The rear in particular looks curvaceous.

Yeah, it does look like Chevy's version of the Buick Enclave, especially from the back. I was expecting them to make a version of the Saturn Outlook or the GMC Acadia since they're more muscular looking than the Buick.

tdiaz339: This is definitely on the Lambda platform, not the next-gen Equinox. The group contained an Acadia and an Outlook, and the prototype was the same size as them.

Other blogs referenced the fine Chevrolet name "Nomad". IMHO it has a lot more meaning for a vehicle intended for crossing the country than the perverse "Traverse"

Kawasaki has the "Nomad" trademark for vehicles with it's Vulcan 1600 touring version.

I'm not sure whether that'd be a factor, but it could be.

Hey GM, introduce the Chevy Traverse with a dual hybrid and I will guarranty you that Chevy will own the market share for crossovers for many years to come. Let see it. .... .

Chevy has used the Nomad name as far back as 1955. If anything, Kawasaki had to negotiate with GM, not the other way around for using that name.

Tell that to Ford about the GT40 namesake.

This platform is actually the replacement for the Trailblazer model, which of course is the most guilty model of "re-badging" of about any car in recent memory. Who else had the Trailblazer? Saab, GMC, Isuzu (?) and more.
They say that the Chevy will be the cheapest of the four versions.
I agree above with the Hybrid option. I'm actually surprised they didn't come out with that right off the bat.
I like the Buick, but I'm waiting for GMC to offer the Denali edition.
And, as much as I would like a Hybrid, there's plenty of room for a V-8 under the hood. And that's the only problem with this vehicle for me is a lack of power for all that weight.
