These are the first pictures of what appears to be the 2010 Volkswagen Rabbit. It doesn't appear substantially different from the current Volkswagen Rabbit, but it shouldn't as it's based on the same platform. A slight increase in size is expected and we'll probably see some updated engines too by the time it makes its way to the U.S. Although we expect to see this go on sale as the Golf in Europe by 2009, U.S...

Just how big, exactly, will they make these cars? And not just the Golf, the whole friggin' segment?! It's disgraceful.

Just sell the Golf Plus here instead.
On another thought, VW has got to launch its cars here simultaneously with Europe. It's like they just don't take the US market seriously. How long was the Golf V delayed? It's pathetic!

Yawn. Rumor is they are planning on decontenting it as well, to keep the prices down to realistic levels. VW used to take the smaller car market seriously... then OOPS the Phaeton came along. I am all for premuim cars, but in this segment?

Wrt reducing production costs, I wonder if it will be via de_contenting, and/or simplifying construction (VW and Audi use extensive seam welding which is considerably manufacturing intensive, but creates a stronger, safer body).
For that matter, why does VW AG keep fighting the fact that they are not an economy car brand any more. Their attitude and dealer network seem suitable for a limited customer base in markets where performance luxury works.
Perhaps VW AG should, in the USA, merge Audi with VW, open up VW dealers to some Audi models, focus product on the performance luxo customers VW management really wants to concentrate on (more R8, S3, R32, etc), and consider a USA or (reported elsewhere on Edmunds) Chinese plant to build their entry level vehicles.

VW seems to be getting more irrelevant all the time.
