Parking meters that call you

Now this is a great idea: a parking meter that calls you on your cell phone just before your time is about to run out! Boy, could I have used that a few years ago, when I was averaging about one parking ticket per week!

This nifty new PhotoViolationMeter is now being tested in Vancouver, British Columbia and Niagara Falls, New York. Not only will the meter call you, but it will allow you to make a wireless payment!

Full story here and here at the Photo Violation Technologies Corp...
web site.

Better than a ticket any day!

Brilliant idea, but there's no way this will ever catch on in most cities, particularly Los Angeles. Not only do they cost more, they defeat the main purpose of parking meters -- extorting money out of the citizenry.

Yeah, why should the city settle for 50 cents when they can get $10?

I agree, jriz. The whole point of parking meters is to extort money so most cities wouldn't install parking meters that help prevent parking tickets.

I wonder if you could sue the city for not notifying you that your parking is about to expire (ie, "Oops, the system went down. Oh well, Johnny, go write some tickets ASAP before they come back online.")
