More news on possible diesel Nissan Titan

A few weeks ago Straightline reported rumors on a possible future Nissan Titan with a Navistar-sourced diesel (Nissan Titan to get Navistar diesels? ). Now we have more evidence that this may occur for the '09 model year. Note that Nissan refuses to comment one way or the other on this possibility.

Questions remain as to how this will effect Navistar's ever-rocky relationship with Ford if this comes to pass...
Will this be a version of the engine that was slated for the F-150? Or will it be a completely different unit?

Full story here and here.

It looks like 2009 is going to be a big year for trucks. This is the year in which new roof strength standards will go into effect. In addition it is rumored that there will be a number of 1/2-ton diesels that will be offered for the first time in this segment.

The 1/2 ton diesel is such a great idea. I hope Chevy uses that new 4.5 Straightline just blogged on.

Chevrolet and GMC sold 1/2 ton diesels with the 6.5L in the 90's. Diesel in a 1/2 ton pickup is not a 'first".

If Ford has had this much trouble with past Navi diesels as well as the "new/improved" units then why the hell does Nissan want that headache?

Probably cause Ford paid them bottom dollar. Every manufacturer will get what they pay for, pay for garbage, you will get garbage....

I agree with the last 2 comments but it sure does seem risky, especially when the new engine buyer is Carlos "le cost cutter" Ghosn.

Maybe Ford should focus on their own engines instead of Navistar. How about all those current and former F150/Expedition owners with the Triton V8 and V10 engines litterally spitting spark plugs. There is a petition also.

My mother was a victim of this with her former 2 Ford Expeditions, a 1997 Eddie Bauer and a 1999 Eddie Bauer. It happened twice on the 1997 and 3 times on the 1999. And guess what? Ford ISNT backing it up and leaving consumers with costly repair bills. We finally got her in a different SUV as she now owns a 2002 Lexus LX470 and she couldnt be happier.

Apparently there isnt enough thread in the heads (usually the # 3 cylinder) to make the plug stay in the heads and in one case an F-150 caught fire and almost took the lives of a couple.

Want proof....
