Spy photos: 2008 Toyota Sequoia caught for the first time

These aren't the best spy photos we've seen in awhile, but they are the first shots of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia. Built on the same platform as the Tundra pickup, this full-size SUV will get the same lineup of V8 engines along with five- and six-speed automatic transmissions. And you can bet it will match the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition when it comes to interior dimensions as well. Expect to see this new SUV in full production trim by the end of this year with sales beginning shortly thereafter...

Since the Tundra is bigger than the Silverado and F-150 inside, The Sequoia will probably be bigger too.

It looks nicer than the LX.

Toyota's ready to fill the monster SUV void when GM and Ford have to cut back due to CAFE.

I wonder if it will be IRS or live axle in the rear?

With gas around $3.40 a gallon, who buys these things ?

Between the Suburban, Expedition, and Sequoia, 16286 people just last month alone, and that was a bad selling month.

IRS? Hmmm. I have no reliable intel on that point. But if I squint real hard at the picture, I can convince myself that I see a slight amount of negative camber in the rear wheels.

I do see a following-distance (adaptive) cruise control sensor in the head-on shot.

Hmm...does it really look like a toyota? Is it a toyota?

Interesting... all I can make out is an SUV wrapped in a rubber condom.

i see that negative camber too. but since tundra is solid rear axle, i'm betting that sequoia is too, just like the seq is now.

Probably the ugliest utility produced in a while. The rear end looks like it came from Rosie O'Donnell

I wonder how long before this one gets recalled too?

It doesn't look anything bigger at all. In fact, it looks smaller and looks like the 4Runner.

Easy now, fleetwoodbrghm. At least Toyota takes ownership of a problem when it has one, unlike GM who is perfectly content to STICK IT to its loyal customers. That's why GM is floundering now with decreasing sales in spite of improved products and Toyota is growing stronger. Every automaker has a recall now and then. Kudos to Toyota for stepping up to the plate and owning a very expensive voluntary recall campaign. Stop attacking Toyota - consumer reports doesn't lie and perosnal ownership experience will confirm that (yes, I've also been unfortunate enough to own GM cars). You are uninformed and myopic in your views of the car industry. GM is much better than they used to be, but only long term quality studies tell the real story. In this regard, with the exception of their trucks, they are terrible and no one can deny it. They have the second worst repair record in the industry overall, next to VW. Go peddle your anti-Toyota crap to your redneck friends and try not to feel bad when you end up paying 3X what your GM is worth just trying to keep it running - badly. Who knows if Toyota will handle their tremendous growth with a perfect record - they will at least try to. They are the most studied, most admired and most envied auto manufacturer in the world, but that doesn't matter to you. You'll just keep pushing your smelly rhetoric on anyone who is willing to let you waste their time. Have a nice day.

Calm down a bit GoToyota, its just a blog. I do agree with you on some points though. Toyota just like everyone else isnt perfect and sometimes has to issue a recall. It the way they handle them that makes Toyota.....Toyota.

What I dont understand is why some people think just because GM has all these new/improved models people are just going to run out and buy them. Its not that simple. GM is going to have to show that their products are durable and reliable something that Toyota and Honda have already proven years ago. This wont take a few months more like a decade or more.

hondacura, point well taken. That was a bit harsh, wasn't it? Sorry fltwoodbrghm. Having been burned badly by GM on a car that had a blown engine at 80K as a result of a known design flaw, and then told by GM that they wouldn't pay for any of the $4K it cost to fix it in spite of my proving to them that it had been regularly maintained (and it's needed another $2.5K in repairs since then), it just puzzles me that they (GM) complain so much about everything but the real reasons why they are hurting now. People are just plain mad at them. Anyway, it is what it is. And GM is now sourcing much of the content of their vehicles from Mexico, while Toyota and Honda are increasingly sourcing from American companies (the new Tundra is almost 100% american sourced), and some poeple seem to not be able to see that buying American doesn't mean the same thing it used to mean. Parts are sourced globally, only the names are American or Japanese, or whatever. The product is only a sum of its parts. I haven't heard anyone cry fowl over GM and Ford sending money to Mexico! Thats what my post was directed at, after having read some of his other posts that were attacking Toyota specifically. Toyota is not trying to ruin GM - in fact they are trying to help GM recover and become what it could be. You don't hear about it a lot but if you read Wards Auto Journal, they regularly report this. So anyways..... : ( wrong blog, eh? Nice Sequoia....

Well it doesn't look much different than the old Sequoia, just bigger..I heard rumors that they plan on using the old Sequoia body for the next gen 4Runner ('09 or '10). I like my 4Runner, but I need something bigger. I do like the GM big SUV's but being that I have been a Toyota customer for a while, I think I will stick with what works (more or less). I know Toyota isn't perfect but overall, they are doing a damn fine job. I have had 2 4runners in 7 years and reliable is an understatement. Have never had one problem...on the other hand, the Fords I had b4 were a different story. Guess that's why the acronym for F.O.R.D. is justified. Fix Often Repair Daily LMAO
