Sales of the 2008 BMW 1 Series in the U.S. have been confirmed for early 2008, but for now a two-door coupe is the only model BMW officials will talk about. Our latest spy photos indicate there's a convertible in the works too, and we would be shocked if this soft top 1 Series didn't show up shortly after the coupe's debut.

It's about time BMW offered this car. It's been a long time coming.

I hope the 1 convertible starts at $23k for a 123Ci with a 200hp I6 or 230hp 3l I6 128i. I hope the bring the 1hatch too!

The real trick - give us a sub-3000 lbs car with RWD.

Probably more like $26k completely stripped, $28k as found on dealer lots for the entry level model. Then $30k for the bigger I6.
Look at the A3. Well equipped they cost a fortune, especially Quattro models.
The 3 series 'vert pushed over $40k for starters, so I don't expect the 1 series drop top to drop below $30k.

ah, but the 1 series will be made in germany and thus European Delivery will be a viable option. If I can get into the top engine for under 30k, I'd be delighted. An ED 335i with the features I want will run me about 38k. 30k for a lighter, more entertaining car...sounds good.

Tariffs are higher from Europe than from South Africa (where many BMWs are "shipped" from). I wouldn't expect a discount for the 1.
