Lithium-ion-powered Toyota Prius put on hold

Japan’s Nikkan Kogyo newspaper (via Winding Road ) is reporting that the next-generation Toyota Prius was to use lithium-ion batteries, but that's no longer true. Citing safety concerns Toyota wants more time to make sure these batteries won't explode, as they have in some PC applications.

Combine this issue along with all the recent quality-control issues that have recently befallen the corporation, Toyota has decided to make sure this new technology won't come back and bite them in the butt. Therefore they are proceeding cautiously, as it's better to be safe than sorry...

Engine Sludge catastrophy, numerous recalls, a Tundra launch that was delayed and now is having a problem with broken engines, harassment suits, and now another delay but this time with the Prius. What the heck is going on at Toyota?!!

They're big, that's what. When you're big you will make more mistakes.
 
Remember, only 0.067% of Tundras were affected.
 
They are big so everyone likes to take a shot.

They are indeed bigger, but they didn't exactly grow huge overnight. Toyota has been a large company for quite some time. Also, much of the reason Toyota is #1 now is not because of growth, but because GM shrunk. Size is no excuse for the recent glitches in Toyota products.

... right... but there's no glitch in the Prius... this article mentions no glitch in the Prius.
 
The idea of engineering and product development is lost on the readers.
