Dodger Charger gaining favor with police

I don't know about you, but I've been seeing more and more Dodge Chargers being used as police cars. It seems that many police departments around the country are phasing them in, and phasing out the old Crown Vics.

The Idaho State Police is one of those switching to the Charger. Lieutenant Eric Dayley states that the Charger has a "muscle-car engine,"  and that it's better able to deal with speeders going 100+ mph...

Yep. I've seen one marked car with the lightbar, and one unmarked on local roads in the past month. The first time I saw them the NC State Police seemed to have at least one cruiser for every five miles of interstate (only the two were Chargers). The unmarked one actually got behind me coming down the steep 6 mile grade leading up to my exit. I was doing up to 15 over (55 on the grade, I let it roll around 70). Evidently even at speed I was driving too tame to get his attention, because even though he followed me off the ramp, he got back on the ramp leading back the way we'd came from. That's when I saw the lights in the rear window.

They must cost a lot more than Crown Victorias though.

An example of IndyCar driver, Tony Kanaan (#11 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda Andretti Green Racing) in a stock Honda Civic Si playing with police officers in Ford Crown Victorias.

Milwaukee PD, if that person is really training your officers, you all need a *lot* of help. "Aim high, steer low" is probably the *worst* way you can describe to someone how one should properly take a corner. Even "Enter wide. Hit the Apex. Exit wide." would work better and be easier to comprehend. He also talks about keeping two car lengths behind the vehicle being chased. TK was definitely more than two lengths up on him the entire time. If you watch the second video at the link above, you can even hear the officer run over a cone (or several cones) while he was following TK through the "slalom/lane change" portion of the course! =Þ

I haven't seen them up here in the snowbelt, but if ID has them, I'm sure Montana will follow suit.

Now here's what we need:

carlisimo, I seem to recall that a V6 Charger police pkg is about the same price (maybe cheaper?) than the Crown Vic Police. Say what you will about the cyl count, but I also seem to remember that that Charger's V6 puts out about the same if not more power than the Crown Vic as well.

Charger is much better than the Vics

I saw an unmarked Charger in RI pulling someone over on 95. So I Guess RI State police are bringing them in, atleast some unmarked versions...
