Cell phones zap some Nissan and Infiniti key codes

If you own a 2007 Nissan Altima or a 2007 Infiniti G35 that use Nissan's "Intelligent Keys," using a cell phone near them could turn them into "dumb keys," as cell phones could erase the key codes.

In a statement released Wednesday by Nissan North America Inc., some cell phones, if allowed to touch the I-Key while sending or receiving a call, may alter it's electronic code.

"When this happens the I-Key will not start the vehicle and cannot be reprogrammed," the statement said.

A fix is in the works, but may not be ready until the fall...

I don't put keys in the same pocket anyway, as they can scratch the phone's display.

Interesting, though.

Wow. That really sucks. One can't help but wonder if the memory in the car would be erased if a cell were next to the key's receiver.

Is this the FCC's fault? Or is that UL? You know, "This device must not cause harmful interference" blah blah blah.
