Now before you choke on your morning cup of coffeeâthis is pure speculation, without an ounce of truth to it...
It all started with Bob Lutz (of course), when presented with a question about the upcoming 4-door Porsche Panamera in a recent AN interview, put forth the following comment: "You could do the same thing with the Corvette."
So, the good folks at Autoblog (here ) picked it up and ran with it. Regardless of where you stand on the matter, it makes for some interesting barroom chatter.

That El Camino has a, what, 36" bed? That's just silly.
So is a vette sedan. You can't sell out the name like that.
A sedan with a Corvette engine, sure, just don't sell out the Corvette name.

I would be okay with putting a corvette logo on the impala engine and power train( kind of TRD like )and have the corvette represent the best balance of motorsport experience and street power..
an exemple... a monte carlo with an ecu updated By Corvette ( or Corvette Motorsports). every car junkie would like to have Corvette Parts in a non corvette and it would benefit as long as they don't strech it to the aveo ( and colbalt .... and ANY INLINE ENGINE!!! for that matter

swap,
That's what the SS badge is for. It's just a shame that "SS" is diluted as much as it is. No need for "Corvette Motorsports" or anything like it. And no need for a 4-door 'Vette either. It'd never compete directly with the likes of Porsche.

I'm not sure if you misunderstood me but the point of my post was selling the corvette image as an official High end aftermarket arm not as a special trim.. Under the SS badge(but not for any of their inline engine) would be Corvette parts or upgrade either sold with the car, installed by the dealer, or only available at the dealer part store (or an e-store if they really want to save money) the point is selling Corvette values to chevy fanatics without killing the name by slapping it on the hood of an impala (exemple, that photoshop job........ badge engineering should be for engineers only...)

So what you're really doing is feeding the consumer's basic performance parts with a Corvette name emblazened on them? I don't make the connection between a 'Vette part and some Malibu someone wants to tune. You can't interchange parts between cars whenever you want, so that leaves you to the "badge engineering" of parts that just say "Corvette" on it. And that just seems silly.
If you really want an OEM performance parts nameplate, GM could easily turn SS into something more than a diluted badge on a Malibu.

Maybe re-badge a Caddy CTS and call it the Corvette TURVIER (four door in German). Then spin off a smaller version based on the upcoming GAMMA platform and call it the CHEVETTE. Get it? CHEVrolet & corVETTE. What would Zora drive?

i like the idea, but......
just dont put that corvette logo anywhere on that car
leave the corvette logos on high performance 2 seaters
make it an upgraded package for the impala SS .. like the cobalt has a 1SS and then a higher performance 2SS package
