I've posted illustrations of future Subarus on Straightline in the past. What separates this one from others, besides being of extremely good quality, is that I think this could be pretty close to what it may end up looking like. Even if it's not spot on, it shows that with just a few tweaks here and there, the vehicle takes on a whole new demeanor. Those who felt the WRX displayed in NY looked a bit wimpy should have no complaints about this one...

I was starting to think that the new WRX might not be all that bad looking...then I saw it next to the Evo X. I've never been a huge fan of either of these cars, but I would take the Evo anyday. Interior's better too...(and when could you ever say that about an Evo??)

The Evo looks way better. It's such a shame, too. I always felt the STi was better. If nothing else, the STi should at least be offered as a sedan.

I'm not a fan of either car but I always had a healthyu respect for these cars. But why did the designers at mitsubishi and subaru decide to throw edgy looks down the toilet and replace it with vechicles that look bland. The Evo though its not a looker either looks way better than the subaru and thats brings us to this question. Why is subaru offering a hatch model of the STI will there be a sedan STI because if this is the only STI model that will be avalible than alot of subie Diehards will be dissapointed. Because remember the Old STIs that had the looks of the ultimate Street car. This STI looks good at the front but its is downright ugly once you get to the rear of the car

That's a great guesstimate! I really hope it comes out looking like that. I'm an unabashed hatchback fan-boy, and I'm glad that they're ditching the space-wasting sedan.

The problem with the EVO is that even though the interior looks good, it feels like the same cheap plastics used in the DC vehicles. The Subaru stuff is better and that is the previous gen interiors, not the 08s.
As for the hatch I believe it's required for WRC this year and hence the reason for the hatches.

The STI will come only in hatch format.

Though I realize that this STI picture is just a "rendering" I am amazed what a difference those fender flares make.

Bob, I'm surprised you didn't mention the pictures originated from Road & Track.
As much as I like the look of the STI in this picture, Unit 91, a moderator on NASIOC who has seen a picture of the actual STI, "laughed" at the R&T picture. Because of his "laugh," I'm inclined to think the picture of the STI isn't as close as I'd and maybe some others out there would like it to be.
His "laugh": http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17842391&postcount=250
His confirmation that the pictures are fake:

paisan, the hatchback configuration isn't "required" for WRC competition, but has seemed to perform better than sedans over the last 3+ seasons.

I saw his comments. He's also laughed at some of the other early WRX renditions that were pretty close. If it's not spot on, he shrugs it off. Besides, being "illustrations," we know that the actual car will differ somewhat.

The flares do help the overall look a lot.
Makes sense to go with a hatch since that's what the WRC cars will be.

The only thing Mitsubishi tuners will cry about is that this new turbo 4 isnt as strong as the legendary 4G63 it replaces. Although the car will offer better all around performance and quality, they took away one of the Evo's strengths. Being as I am "in the scene" I know a slew of Evolution tuners/owners and they are alreay bickering about the matter.

I will be the first to say I hate sedans. That said, the Evo is a better looking car. The B9 Tribeca style does not work on the WRX. It looks a little better on the Sti with the fender flairs. Still, that front grill and bumper are horrible. So sad really.
