It seems NASCAR popularity is finally on the wane, and I for one wonder why it took so long. I'm not against the (original) concept of NASCARâthat being a racing series based on stock carsâwhich incidentally, is part of the title of the NASCAR acronym. No, I'm against as to how NASCAR has evolved, in which the word "stock" is now a joke...
NASCAR lost me years ago when they started using decals for headlights and grilles. The final nail in the coffin for me was when they started racing RWD Ford Tauruses. Ever see a RWD Taurus on the road? Not me...
In addition, I'm just burned out with the incredible overexposure of NASCAR on TV. You would think, that being a car geek, I would welcome the SPEED CHANNEL. Not so, as it's nothing but a "vehicle" to promote NASCARâand I rarely if ever watch it because of that.
As DeLorenzo so accurately pointed out, NASCAR is a merely circus with the France family being the ringmaster. Frankly I can't wait for it to leave town, as it's certainly overstayed its welcome in my household.

Here's to open-wheel racing getting its act together to capitalize on this! I'm sure Robin Miller is somewhere thinking/saying, "That would make too much sense!"

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Blech. Lots of fans will disagree. I'm not personally a fan, and feel that the farther they get from true "stock" cars (aka more standardization in order to "equalize" the competition), the less interesting it has become. But currently I live in the heart of what appears to be "Nascar Country". It seems pretty much unanimously a sports (!?) fan favorite here. Other than the recent Toyota entries, that is (not so popular a change, evidently).

I don't pay much attention to any auto racing, but I'd like to see actual stock car races: anything goes, but the vehicle raced must be exactly as available at retail within a certain realistic price ceiling.
