Sounds like a lot of bucks for a Lexus. Then again we've never seen a Lexus like this before. The level of content is astounding. It has a 430 hp gas-electric hybrid hooked up to a CVT and is driven by full-time AWD...
Full story here.
More info can be found here at the Lexus site.
I know if I were ever to be in a position to afford a such a luxury car (highly unlikely I might add), this probably would be it.

The ONLY problem i have with this car is that the driver has no fun. All (most) of the good stuff is in the back seat area. I guess one could always hire a professional driver....hmmm....or even better, one could have his or her car-happy teens do chauffeur duty...or Lexus could design a system that not only parks the car but also drives it for you. (Then, they could steal a play from the MB playbook and call it ChauffeurTronic, as is MBs obssesion with names ending in"tronic")
;-)

you would not buy a long wheel base executive carrier without a chauffeur.
The ride is flat and smooth for the people sitting in the backseat to do work.
An AMG S-class would be a pointless car.

I guess they're being like Cadillac and feeling that they're not complete without a $100k+ car. I think it's the coolest large luxury sedan this side of the Quattroporte, so hey, they should go for it.

Like most of the Toyota/Lexus models, this thing doesn't excite me at all. Give me an S-Class, A8/S8, 7-Series, or Quattroporte any day. I'd rather have a Maserati minus a few toys than a scoop of vanilla ice cream that can park itself.

I second Sabastian's opinion. For the same money I'd rather have a much sexier, svelter Quattroporte and park it myself than the pleasantly bland self-parking LS600h. Don't get me wrong, the LS600h is a true technological tour de force- but the styling is a complete non starter.
To sell well this car really needs a serious injection of stylish sheetmetal. But then again, Lexus (and parent company Toyota) are world renowned for never taking ANY risks with the sheetmetal of their vehicles...
To me the LS600h is a gorgeous supermodel in an Amish housedress - she has a great body packing lots of interesting features, but the way she's dressed covers up those desirable features and does absolutely nothing for her...

I'm sure the hybrid system will save you about $300 per year in fuel costs.
It will only take you about 350 years to break-even. ;-)

I'm not sure saving money here is the point. I think it's more of an eco-statement than anything else.

That's the equivalent of buying a hybrid SUV for your daily commute. It may send a certain message, but I assure the message is not genuine.

How big is the trunk? Seriously, with the GS hybrid the batteries eat a lot of the space, which would reduce its effectiveness as a tool to carry passengers AND their luggage over big distances in comfort.
jerrywimer says:

That all depends estreka. If you *need* an SUV, and can't afford to make like Jay Leno with a stable of cars, then why is buying the more eco-friendly SUV that meets your needs a problem? So your assurances might need a bit of a rethink. (Not that I think that MOST hybrid owners really care about the environment so much as looking like they care about the environment and being able to stick their noses up in the air to passing non-hybrid SUVs and trucks!)

As far as this Lexus goes, I love all the tech it has, hate the price (mostly because I'll never be able to afford anything so well decked out in goodies and gadgets :-P), and agree with many others who think the car styling is bland or even a bit on the ugly side. Keep the goodies, but hire some of the soon to be unemployed Chrysler designers to get you some more attractive sheetmetal!

I don't think this one's ugly at all! I prefer it to all its competitors except the Quattroporte.

I actually like this car as its the first of its kind in this segment. As far as the design, its not as flashy as an A8, S, or 7 but Im sure it wont see the dealer nearly as much as those cars. The LS series has always had the same type of craftsmanship as the more stylish Germans but the Germans have never been able to match the reliability of the Lexus.
I admit the driving experience isnt as inspiring as the Germans but how many S-Class/7/A8 owners do you see driving spiritedly? I actually applaud Lexus for making a world class car but at the same time they need to add some personality as well.

If I had to have a luxury sedan, this would be the one. I love how the long-wheelbase body and interior looks. I wish I could give my wife all that luxury to enjoy when she breastfeeds our baby in the backseat. I'm essentially chauffer already anyhow. Why does a guy in a stuffy suit need to be that comfortable? He already chose to choke himself with a tie, and an uncomfortable costume. Obviously he doesn't care too much about comfort.
