European Ford Transit bulks up



Ford of Europe has just introduced a new Transit van with a more powerful 3.2L 5-cylinder common-rail diesel for the European market. In addition, payloads have been increased.

"We know there are customers out there who are looking for more powerful engines for their long-haul deliveries," said Steve Kimber, commercial vehicles director, Ford of Britain. "We've also identified a need for additional payload for customers delivering heavy goods, and I think it's safe to say that we've accommodated these special needs with the new Transit derivatives that we're launching here in Birmingham," Kimber added...
I've been saying for some time that Ford should replace the aging Econoline with the Transit. Like the Dodge Sprinter, it's a thoroughly modern vehicle, and much better suited to cope with the needs and chores of typical E-van customers.

Isn't the Econoline built not on the current generation's nor the previous generation's but the generation before that's F-series platform?
