2007 Shanghai Auto Show opens to record crowds

Despite really miserable weather, the Shanghai Auto Show had more than 100,000 visitors show up on the opening day of the show. Besides China visitors came from 92 countries, indicating that this show is indeed on the global radar in terms of being an important show.

The biennial show, called “Technology and Nature in Harmony” this year, covers 140,000 square meters and includes nine exhibition halls and seven outdoor spaces, expanding from the 120,000 square meters of the last show in 2005.

On a related note, Chinese automaker Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei plans to ship its first cars to the United States perhaps as early as this year. If so, they could be the first Chinese carmaker to enter the U.S. market.

We've heard that before.
 
I bet cars won't arrive until 2009 or so. Just getting over all the regulatory hurdles, and getting dealers in place, will take a lot of time.
