2007 New York Auto Show: Chevrolet Trax concept

"Now that car is on the right Trax." Yes, that little zinger was actually said with a straight face by the Tony Robbins look-alike who introduced the Chevrolet Trax concept. Maybe it was lightly cladded dancers who had joined him onstage, but the massive-jawed MC could barely contain his excitement throughout the press conference at today's New York auto show.

We were slightly less impressed given the goofy-looking headlights on this wannabe SUV. They remind us of a Dodge Neon which, if you ever drove a Neon, is not a good thing. The rest of vehicle is classic concept stuff. Custom tires on the 16-inch wheels, useless mirrors and no interior.

According to Chevrolet designer Sangyeon Cho, "The Trax is a vehicle that you can show off anywhere, be it off-road or on-road." By off-road we assume she was referring to the all-wheel-drive system. It uses a battery pack to power electric motors which drive the rear wheels. Given its paper-thin ground clearance and the 1.0-liter engine that powers the front wheels, we wouldn't expect the Trax to be much of a friend in the wild. — Ed Hellwig, Senior Editor

Lame zinger and even lamer car i'm not a fan of the headlights and i would not want to show this car off i'd rather hide it to avoid embarassment but good try though chevy. I posted about all three cars personally i like the beat the best compared to the other two concepts it actually has a edgy and distinctive look though i do question the grunge theme

Two tone panels that aren't done well just don't work for me-just like the Subaru Forester and Outback (how the front bumper meets the grille/hood).

Example of a Subaru Forester 2.5 X L.L. Bean Edition's front:

By the way, the last paragraph of your Tribeca new model article was very funny (yawn scale)! I hope to see you around the office after you all return. While it may not excite many (especially with Subaru's "Think. Feel. Drive." slogan), I'm hoping it will sell well. That way, Subaru can hopefully spend more on product development and R&D for the Impreza and Legacy. :o)

Oddly, if you put vertical slots in the grille this would look more like a Jeep.

I prefer the other ones.

Fix the headlights and move the 2 tone paint down to just the bumpers and wheel wells and this isn't too bad. I like that fact that the tire is out back to give it that SUV look. I'd have to see the interior to be totally convinced, but not a bad effort.
