2007 New York Auto Show: 2007 Nissan Nismo 350Z

Last night Nissan invited all who matter to the Morrell Wine Bar just across the street from the world famous ice skating rink at Rockefeller center. The promise was cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a first in-person look at the 2007 Nissan Nismo 350Z. The thing is, it was raining. And somebody thought a Nismo 350Z covered in clear plastic is better than a wet Nismo 350Z...

So we ate and drank, but didn't really get to see the car until today when it was finally displayed at the Nissan booth.

Good news, it looks much better in person.

We then spent a few minutes with the man responsible for the machine, Vinay R. Shahani, Nissan's Director of Specialty Vehicles. He told us this U.S.-spec example, serial number 0000, wears slightly different wheels than the version that will be sold in Japan. He also confirmed that about 1500 units will make American soil and the car will go on sale this summer. Just don't ask for #1 or #350. Nissan has already received special requests for each. — Scott Oldham, Inside Line Editor-in-Chief

Out in the real world, that front lip won't make it past your first speed bump.

The spoiler is kind of silly too. I'd forgive people who use this on the track extensively.

I like the front valanced grille, but the valance itself comes out way too far for my liking.

I think they tried too hard with the rear end. It's too busy for what is originally a very simple and artful design.

I really like it. I have one ordered in Silver Alloy.
